common "be" - whats the word ??
Wondering if anyone had a chance to pick up the new common album "be". I'm a pretty big fan of common since back in his "can I borrow a dollar" days. Advance reviews are saying its less experimental than "Electric Circus", but he lyrics and delivery are still on points.
It's nice to hear an m.c. who hasn't sold out to the party/gangsta/bling-bling vibe to get sales. Years ago, I used to hang out the odd time with a few guys who used to produce some tracks for Common. They were some pretty cool/nice guys.
From advance reviews it looks like Kanye West handles the bulk of the production.
Finally, the are some decent releases hitting the shelves. Common, new Audioslave, and Chappelle's show season 2 all in one day. Nice !!!

Just picked up this disc, so I figured I post my own thoughts in case anybody was interested.
So far after one quick spin, this is one of the more solid hip-hop records in a long time. It reminds of of the older 90's rap with thick jazz influences. Almost like an Pete Rock & CL Smooth vibe to it. Its nice to hear some actual jazz samples and what not, instead of the cheap synth effects most hio-hop is using these days.
From a delivry and lyrical standpoint common delivers yet again. However to really comment on that respect I need to listen to the disc with the headphones.
If your fan of common this is a must-have.

A fantastic album. A lot of people, me included, were somewhat dissillusioned with Electric Circus (I admired its creativeness but I didn't really enjoy it), this album is not only a return to the old lyrical Common Sense. Production-wise, Kanye West handles 9 out of the 11 tracks (with Dilla-Slum Village's JD-on the other 2). This is something that tremendously helps out the album. It has that thematic unity and most of the beats are a perfect amalgam of Kanye soul and Common jazziness. Lyrically, Chi City takes the cake as Common gets back to battle ready form. On Testify, he shows off pretty decent storytelling technique that ends in a Usual Suspect-like twist. Overall, the album is very, very good. I highly recommend it.

Bought it last night and have listened to it a couple of times. I wasn't a big fan of "Electric Circus", but this one is excellent. I love "The Food" song that was done on Chappelle's show.

I got the album on Tuesday, my most anticipated release this year... It's definitely good, but i guess unlike most of his fans, since I loved Electric Circus I wanted a bit more of the uniqueness that was all over that album.
I didn't really feel EC for the first 2 years that I had it, with the exception of a couple songs, but in the past year I'm finding it one of my favourite hip hop albums. Even common admits EC was a bit out there, and not many of his fans dug it, so I guess it's expected that he'd go back to the basics. I was kinda hoping for halfway between EC and Ressurection though.
Testifyin' is a crazily sampled and cut beat!

Thank you Common for making this album. It's a breath of fresh air in this crap-laden era of hip hop. Track 9, " Real People " is my favorite cut, but they are all really good.

Just picked this up and I love it. Common has always been one of those MCs where the words just kind of effortlessly flow and this album is no exception. I really like all the tracks featuring Kanye. I really The Food and Go.
