Anyone listening to M.I.A.?

Got the Arular album from Amazon.com (ironic) and can't stop listening to it. It's so insanely catchy and hypnotic! She is playing in Chicago next week with LCD Soundsystem and I'm contemplating making a road trip to the show.

Just curious if anyone else is into this - I can see her being popular at some point.

Trust me, go see her. Her performance at Coachella was one of the top highlights of my two days there. The crowd really got into the performance and she even came back on for an encore, which was a rarity for bands over those two days. I decided to give the CD a listen after hearing that Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails of all people had been listening to the CD (with the other CD he had been listening to being the LCD Soundsystem one) and was very impressed for someone who generally isn't into rap. Like you said, I think it's the catchiness of the songs that really does it, and for some reason I think that accent of hers helps.

I do find myself listening to Arular more than I thought I would, but I heard she was severly lacking live. She was on Jimmy Kimmel last week and didn't look good either.

I recently read a review (in the Washington Post) of her live gig at Coachella and they said it was the defining set of the weekend. I just bought a tix to see her and LCD Soundsystem next month and hope she doesn't dissapoint.

I was listening to "Arular" with my wife last week and we both commented how we actually kind of do like hiphop when you take out most of the cheesy B.E.T. qualities to it. LOVE this album.
