'Rain' music

Boy, I just love the 'New Thread' button.

I'm bored, sue me.

A few months ago, I was thinking how many songs are about rain.

I have a large MP3 and CD collection, so I started to make a compliation.

I looked on Google for a little help so I wouldn't miss any really good songs... (if you search for rain songs, the first result gives best info)

Since it is currently raining outside, here is the list I made for my CD.

(22 tracks)

Nelson - After The Rain
Milli Vanilli - Blame It On The Rain
Everly Brothers - Crying In The Rain
Jars Of Clay - Flood
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Have You Ever Seen The Rain
Fortunes - Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again
Eurthymics - Here Comes The Rain Again
Eruption - I Can't Stand The Rain
Eddie Rabbit - I Love A Rainy Night
Phil Collins - I Wish It Would Rain Down
Albert Hammond - It Never Rains In Southern California
Elvis Presley - Kentucky Rain
Billie Myers - Kiss The Rain
Neil Sedaka - Laughter In The Rain
Madonna - Rain
B.J. Thomas - Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head
Dee Clark - Raindrops
Rainy Days And Mondays
Brook Benton - Rainy Night In Georgia
Cascades - Rhythm Of The Rain
Johnny Rivers - Summer Rain
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Who'll Stop The Rain

Yeah, I know one song doesn't have rain in the title, and a couple are symbolic, but I like all of these.

Rejected for CD, too long, don't like as much, or not rain related enough.

Little April Showers (from Bambi)
Rain Rain Rain Came Down Down Down (from Winnie the Pooh)
Prince - Purple Rain
Cowsills - The Rain, The Park, and Other Things
Guns N Roses - November Rain
Beatles - Rain
Lou Christie - Rhapsody In The Rain
Blind Melon - No Rain

there are a lot of songs that mention rain that I would have never thought of until I googled them. Like 'A Lover's Concerto' by the Toys.

First line is "How gentle is the rain, that falls softly on the meadow"

Anyone ever attempt similar compilations on a common theme?

A friend of mine made a mix tape of songs that had colors in their titles, like Purple Rain, White Room, Paint It Black, etc. I wish I could remember all of the songs. It was a good tape.

Your list isn't complete without Uriah Heep: Rain. Maybe the best of the bunch.

I made a rain cd a few months back as well. I left it at work though.

No "rain" cd is even right without "the Rain Song" by Led Zeppelin.

others:
Fool in the Rain - Led Zeppelin
No Rain - Blind Melon
Another Rainy Night (without you) - Queensryche
Rain When I Die - Alice in Chains
Rainy Day Woman #12 & 35 - Bob Dylan
Let it Rain - Eric Clapton
When Will It Rain - Jackyl
Rain - Kiss
It's Raining On Prom Night - Me First & the Gimmie Gimmies

And I threw "oceans" by Pearl Jam on at the end.

I can't remember the rest, I'll have to dig up the disc.

Well, here's where I got a little help... Click me

I thought about the Bob Dylan too, but while it says 'rain' in the title, it's not rain themed.

And Rain King by the Counting Crows.

A 'color' CD would be cool...

A lot of 'green' and 'blue' songs, I can think of four or five 'yellow' songs, a couple of 'reds'...

This is one reason I like itunes, for their smart playlists. I'll pick a random number, and make a playlist with all songs containing it. Or, I'll pick a word, like 'stop', and create a playlist with those. It's sometimes interesting to see how many songs have a particular word in it.

Recent country song:
Artist/Band: Allan Gary
Lyrics for Song: Songs About Rain
Lyrics for Album: See If I Care
(Liz Rose/Pat McLaughlin)

Well this town has closed down way too early,
And there’s nothing to do,
So I’m driving around in circles,
And I’m thinking about you,
Today I heard you got a new last name,
Sure didn’t know it was gonna hit me this way,
And the radio just keeps on playing all these songs about rain
Now there’s all kind of songs about babies and love that goes right,
But for some unknown reason nobody wants to play them tonight,
Hey I hope it’s sunny wherever you are,
But that’s sure not the picture tonight in my car,
And it sure ain’t easing my pain all these songs like,

Rainy Night In Georgia,
and Kentucky Rain,
Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again,
Blue Eyes Crying In The early morning Rain,
They go on and on,
And there’s no two the same,

Oh it would be easy to blame all these songs about rain,
Well I thought I was over you but I guess maybe I’m not,
Cause when I let you go looks like lonely is all that I got,
Guess I’ll never know what could have been,
Sure ain’t helping this mood that I’m in,
If their gonna keep on playing me songs like,

Rainy Night In Georgia,
and Kentucky Rain,
Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again,
Blue Eyes Crying In The early morning Rain,
They go on and on,
And there’s no two the same,

Oh how I wish I could blame all these songs about rain,
All these songs about rain,
Songs about rain.......

I wouldn't think there would be enough 'Johnny' songs if you just went by titles. Johnny Angel, Johnny Get Angry, Johnny B. Goode... A whole lot of songs mention a 'Johnny' though. And there are a LOT of artists named Johnny.

I know it would be possible to do a 'blue' album, Bobby Vinton did it... I think I'll work on it. Or Green.

Edit: I found this list of 'color' songs.

You can also search this site by keywords. It found 49 'rain' songs and 6 'johnny' songs, though it doesn't list Johnny Angel or Johnny Get Angry.
