Guy - "Teddy's Jam" followed by "Teddy's Jam 2" on their next album--although both are essentially instrumentals, so maybe it doesn't really count.

A case can also be made for Jackie Morningstar's "Rockin' In The Graveyard".

Here's some of the RUSH stuff I was thinking about.

The "Trilogy of Fear"

Witch Hunt--> The Weapon --> The Enemy Within

An interesting explanation for The Trilogy by Neil Peart.

Q.1 What inspired the "Fear" trilogy, as heard in reverse order on the albums Moving Pictures, Signals, and Grace Under Pressure? Why were they recorded in reverse order?

Peart....1/ I started with these two questions because many others have asked them too. The idea for the trilogy was suggested by an older man telling that he didn't think life was ruled by love, or reason, or money, or the pursuit of happiness -- but by fear. This smart-but cynical guy's position was that most people's actions are motivated by fear of being hungry, fear of being hurt, fear of being alone, fear of being robbed, etc,. and that people don't make choices based on hope that something good will happen, but in fear that something bad will happen.

I reacted to this the way all of us tend to react to generalities: "Well, I'm not like that!" But then I started thinking about it more, watching the way people around me behaved, and I soon realised that there was something to this viewpoint, So I sketched out the three "theaters of fear," as I saw them: how fear works inside us ("The Enemy Within"), how fear is used against us ("The Weapon"), and how fear feeds the mob mentality ("Witch Hunt").

As it happened, the last theme was easiest to deal with, so it was written first, and consequently appeared first on record, and the other two followed in reverse order for the same reason.

Marty Robbins:

El Paso (1959), a classic western song
El Paso City (1976), which refers to the legend in the first song

Someone help me out, this is one of the funniest things I have heard, but one of the old '70's stadium bands came out with an album in the early 90's (90-93) and it had some songs that were going to make a trilogy with one of their old hits. However the musician in an interview gave an overview of the "trilogy" and they made 3 new songs to make this trilogy of 4 songs. Anyone know what I am talking about? It could have been Boston, Deep Purple or one of other countless arena rockers from the '70s that should have stayed in the 70s.

Yep. "Hooks in You" (No Prayer for the Dying) starts with the lyric "I got the keys to view at number 22" which ties it into the greater Charlotte the Harlot saga; and "From Here to Eternity" (Fear of the Dark) has a line near the end where Charlotte is mentioned by name.

I didn't know about "From Here to Eternity" until I finally bought the CD a few months ago!

I had assumed it was a trilogy.

You can probe the entire prog genre and mine any artist for sequels. They are quite common.
True - there's also their song "Metropolis" from Images & Words that was expanded into the full Scenes From A Memory album.

I'm still kind of a King Crimson novice, but I see that "Larks' Tongue In Aspic, Part X" shows up several times in their catalog. I don't know what the specific connections are between the pieces.

And there's "Your Gold Teeth" and "Your Gold Teeth II" by Steely Dan.

Thematically, I think John Lennon's "(Just Like) Starting Over" can be considered a sequel to "The Ballad of John and Yoko".

Sting's "Seven Days" references "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic".

Do I have to tell a story
Of a thousand rainy days since we first met
It's a big enough umbrella
But it's always me that ends up getting wet

Dunno if I'd call that a sequel, but he does the same thing at the end of "Love Is The Seventh Wave" by quoting a few lines from "Every Breath You Take" during the outro.

Well I'll be damned. That's the first I heard of that!

For the love of God, please let it be good...
