While Banquet is incredibly catchy, the sound on that song is similar to the rest of the album, so it is definitely worth picking up.
It's definitely a slow burn. To me, it initally sounded so similar to a lot of the other bands that it didn't really make an impression, especially since I buy a lot of albums. But, after I'd really listened to it, I began to think it's a lot better than most albums. Tight minimalist arrangements, good playing, good lyrics. Everything is a cut above most releases.

I've been listening to the album for several weeks and I really like it. One of my favorite albums of the year so far.

They're one of the reasons that I really wanted to go to Werchter Festival.

I'm hoping to see more remixes pop up. The three from the Japanese release are great: the aforementioned M83 mix of "Pioneers," Mogwai handling "Plans," and Four Tet's incredible, stunningly gorgeous remix of "So Here We Are."

There's one for "This Modern Love" (an odd title, IIRC; Dave P. and something mix) but I was less impressed with that.

I'm genuinely surprised how much staying power this disc has. When I picked it up a few months ago, I'd expected good stuff, but figured the hype train was nearing it's last stop and that I'd put the album aside pretty quickly. To my surprise, I can still toss it in the CD player a few times a week and still get the same rush as I did the first time. And despite all the great reviews, word of mouth and whatnot, they've yet to become over-exposed (thankfully). Although, like someone else mentioned, I'm not sure it'd necessarily bother me! Hearing "Positive Tension" 20 times a day on TV might be pretty awesome, actually.

I finally got this CD last night and have listened to it only once so far, but I can already say that it is an excellent album.

Bloc Party is 2005's Franz Ferdinand. I love this band.

Great album for working out along with Franz Ferdinand. About as close as I get to actually listening to "dance music".

the show was excellent last night apart from a little too much moshing for my liking.

The performance was great from the band, kele's vocals are not as clear as I thought they might be. But great show in a small venue. 500 people.

Now for tonight to see how they fare in a larger venue. last night was slims, tonight the fillmore.

Re: Bloc Party

If there are still Bloc Party fans around here, Kele released his solo effort back in June.

A little different from Bloc Party (more electronic), but still very good.

Huge BP fan. Hated the Kele solo record. Time to regroup/record and get Kele's inflated ego in check.

Re: Bloc Party

Bloc Party was big in 1999. Saw them at the KROQ Weenie Roast that same year. I thought they were on-hit-wonders.

They didn't put out an album until 2005...

I only listened to the new album once. Didn't care much for it.

Whoops. I was thinking of The Freestylers for whatever reason.

Re: Bloc Party

Been listening to the new album quite a bit. Seems they've gone back to the stripped down "Silent Alarm" well but with fewer catchy choruses.

It's a solid album. Not their best. Glad Kele's electronica experimentation with the band died down a bit. They were always dominant as an indie rock act.
