First of all Rat, you never let on how much you like a girl. "Oh, Debbie. Hi." Two, you always call the shots. "Kiss me. You won't regret it." Now three, act like wherever you are, that's the place to be. "Isn't this great?" Four, when ordering food, you find out what she wants, then order for the both of you. It's a classy move. "Now, the lady will have the linguini and white clam sauce, and a Coke with no ice." And five, now this is the most important, Rat. When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV.
Queue up... "Kashmir" hehe

what ever you do, don't buy any of the major comulations, since they are all missing many of the key singles.

Zep only released 1 single, if I recall. The Early Day/Latter Day compilations do a decent job of covering the songs you hear on the radio, but I agree it's impossible to get their best material on just 2 CDs.

Actually, Led Zep released a bunch of singles (except in the UK, where the band didn't want any to be released). The only non-album song on a single was "Hey, Hey, What Can I Do", the b-side of "The Immigrant Song"

Nah, I'll have to dig up my book on Zep collectibles to get the numbers and titles, but there were many official singles released by Atlantic in the US, as well as singles released all over the world (except the UK). I'd probably get the Complete Recordings box (go through one of those record clubs to get it for about half price). I'm not crazy about the way the discs are housed (just get a few slimline cases for the cd's). The packaging is cool (and you get a liner notes from Cameron Crowe). When I first got into Zep I went from LZI all the way up to Coda. I always like to see the progression of an artist. Of course, make sure you get the remastered CD's (I know the original Physical Graffiti CD had a shorter than supposed to be running time for In The Light).
Getting the box will also get you the extra b-sides/rare tracks. Then I would get the LZ DVD. I would also suggest picking up the BBC collection and the How the West Was Won. You can't go wrong with these. Last, I would get The Song Remains the Same. It's not the greatest live recording, but it's got it's moments (No Quarter, Dazed and Confused). Basically, buy everything.
Favorite cd when I first started listening: LZII
Favorite cd now: LZIII

And just to make you sick, I bought my set at the Columbia House employee store while I worked for them, and paid $15 for it. Most things there come from customer returns, so this was opened. When I found one of the discs was bad (later on, after I no longer worked for the company, and therefore couldn't exchange it), I took it to the mall, told them a story about getting it for Christmas last year, and exchanged it for a brand-new $150 set.

The Complete Studio Recordings Set is...priceless.
But to answer the posters original question - I'd go for III, Physical Graffiti, and IV.
Ten Years Gone is the greatest song they recorded...but my personal fave is Since I've Been Lovin' You...
