Sage Francis is unbelieveable. I have a ton of his stuff and saw him in concert last year -- he put on a great show. I thought "Hope" was brilliant, and I'm stoked for AHD after hearing three of the tracks thus far.

Funny to see this thread. I just discovered this guy, and I've just been starting to get into this guys music. I recently picked up personal journals, and while it was good I thought it was a little less than the underground hype. However, the non-prophets album is great. Also, his cameo tracks on the new DJ Signify album are great too. I like the fact that he has good lyrics and you can actually pick out the words he is saying. So many emcee's are getting lazy with their delivery these days. I'm excited to hear Healthy Distrust. I heard a few tracks of mix cd's and they are all pretty solid.

Just finished giving Healthy Distrust a spin. I've only gave it one full listen, but so far I'm liking it. The production is a little different than his personal journals and non-prophets stuff. There is more variety in the beats....some of it is straight up old skool b-boy type of beats, while other tracks are slightly more experimental. Same goes for the lyrics, as he raps about a variety of topics.

On the first listen I would give this a solid 8.5 out of 10. I think any fans of hip-hop who are slightly dis-gruntled with the current crop of gangsta bling-bling artists should check this kid out.

So far I have heard three sage records, each one is solid. This is definitely one I'll pick on vinyl (only select few albums are worth the double dip).

I like most of Hope, but Personal Journals was way too pretentious. His flow's good and his voice ain't bad but damn does his subject matter grate me most of the time. How does the new one compare on the self-righteous scale?

I'd say it geared more towards the "self-righteous" personal journals than the "straight-up b-boy" of hope.

I can kind of see your point about personal journals, but it never bothered me. I'd rather hear that, then the repititive dang-pop hip-hop songs out now.

I heard the name once or twice before now. This guy played in my town a couple of nights ago (New Haven, CT at Toad's Place) and after sampling some of his "stuff" on Amazon.com I have to say..........thank god I didn't go.

No offense anyone. But rap is just not my bag, man.

Some new - for those who care.

Sage's first video has been sorta' unofficially released ... http://www.ramonandpedro.com/sage.html

Sage is going to be [on] the knowmore.org tour.

Knowmore.org Tour will be from Oct 5 until mid November, 2005.

Sage Francis (epitaph records, strange famous records)
Sole (anticon records)
Sol.iLLaquists of Sound (nonsense records)

of course Tom Inhaler will be in effect. Playing guitar and offering his services and being the jack of many trades.

Bernard Dolan will be on the tour as well, working the merch table and taking care of knowmore.org inquisitions. Hopefully he will take the stage at some point but that's not promised.

Sleep from Old Dominion will perform on some of these shows (TBA)

Yeah, I like Sage Francis' material. I bought Personal Journals when it was first released and also the Non Prophets album when it came out, and have heard his newest release but didn't get a chance to pick it up in stores yet. I haven't heard all of his "Sick" compilations, but from what I have heard I would say Personal Journals is my favorite album by him.

Does anybody know if Non-Prophets have officially announced a follow up to Hope?

I've been hearing some Sage on Sirius 28 (Faction) and the Hiphop channel, and I'm interested in picking up some of his stuff. He flows pretty well.

Anyone have a recommendation on what I should pick up first?

I've liked Hope and the "Sick of" discs but i hated Personal Journals.

None of its too special, but still much better than Buck 65 garbage.

I checked his new album is out and it wasnt as good as I thought it would be. It is better than any of the watered down mainstream bullshit you hear on the radio 20 times a day.

Not as good as the Sick of. series or A Healthy Distrust but overall a decent album.

I also picked up the new Brother Ali cd and that is another good cd that came out recently

have given Human the Death Dance a few spins, not as good as AHD, but good in its own right. A little calmer and down tempo.
