Anyone joining me in the idea that records can be like they once were. A great band can put everything they have into it, set a date, make sure every detail is perfection and watch as their fans devour the REAL thing as a whole with art, binding and a plastic case in their hands. If not, tell me how it is. I am dying here. RW from what i've read, most people think it's pretty incredible. |
i just got done dl it, jambi is amazing
|
Reading people's thoughts on this board and the TDN board make me want to pull my hair out. Waiting until the 2nd will probably be the most difficult thing I try all year.
|
Whatever does get said about Tool, I have to hand it to them, they continue to progress their music styles and reshape it with each album.
They've earned their rep, and I'm glad they're still doing it right :D. |
this cd seems more guitar oriented, and i love the thunder storm sounds in 10,000 days the song it sets a nice atmosphere. 10,000 days in the fire is long enough
|
I'll wait. I've already waited a couple years: two more weeks won't hurt. Much. Glad to hear it is being received well. I wasn't blown away by the single like some others seemed to be, but I realize that it is a single and most of my favorite Tool stuff is not really radio friendly.
|
This is easily my favorite Tool cd so far because of Maynards vocals. They seem like a compromise between his vocals with APC and older Tool, which is about perfect. Not to mention all the harmony parts.
Vicarious, Jambi, 10,000 Days, and The Pot=My 4 favorite Tools songs of all time. |
Although I liked Vicarious I was worried that the album would end up being a rehash of Lateralus. Thats certainly not the case and there seems to be more variety here than any of their previous efforts. I'm loving The Pot, Rosetta Stoned and Jambi. Very Tool but with some different elements. A definate purchase on the 2nd.

I am halfway through it and it is fing amazing, just confirms my beliefs tool is the best band in a long time.
|
Album rules, as expected. Can't wait for my official cd with all the awesome artwork on the 2nd.
|
Finally heard Vicarious today on the radio. Just sounded like a reworking of their old stuff, and definitely didn't get me hyped up for the full album. But its still TOOL, so of course its good. I'll pick up the new cd sometime.
|
nobody thinks is this just a hoax album put out by the label of old b-sides and rare tracks to keep people from lookin any longer? maynard said he would do it
^ got that from another site, it would be cool if its true |
lol, that would prob be the coolest thing ever if true.
|
well, it definately sounds like Tool. I was never a huge fan of them, but nothing really jumps out at me as a standout. "The Pot" is great though.
|
If this isn't the "real" album, then it would be really really cool to have TWO new Tool albums. :D

That would be insanely cool but I highly doubt that's the case with this. All the tracks are far too good to be considered B sides and the entire things fits too well together. These songs were definitely written together and to be cohesive and flowing as a whole. On that note, Tool has been my favorite band for over 10 years and I have always had faith in them to deliver a quality product. Without sounding like I'm buying into hype or jumping on a bandwagon of excited Tool fans, I can honestly say that this album is absolutely stellar. Zero faults. I thought Lateralus couldn't be topped, but this takes the cake. It's not the type of album you can throw on and flip to your favorite tracks though; it has to be ingested as a whole. To be fair though I thought that about Lateralus too and it later became far more accessible for me on a track by track basis than I thought it would. I thought I could wait until May 2nd but I just couldn't do it. .. In fact I'm so excited about it now that I'm buying 2 copies on the 2nd; one for me and one for a friend who doesn't get as much exposure to new music but has always loved Tool. |
I went back and read the review posted back in February of the album by a critic from totalrock.com: http://www.utrave.org/showthread.php?t=26339 (it is found in many place, but google got me to that link the quickest)
The album this guy describes is basically the exact album I've been listening to the past several hours. He gets off track, literally around track 7...but just add 1 to the rest of the tracks, and his descriptions are pretty accurate. |
thought this album was really good up until the 2nd half of the album. Wasn't a big fan of most of those tracks. But the 1st half is awesome.
|
Listen to streams of 3 tracks from the album at www.myspace.com/vicariouslyi

Count me disappointed - all I hear is them slipping even further into the self-parody that started with parts of "Aenima" [which I can't really speak too bad of, as it was practically all I listened to in 1996/1997, but it's pretty friggin ridiculous in parts] and especially "Latalerus". I was hoping they'd recover, but instead it's gotten worse. Oh well.
