Fugees got back together for a "block party" that Dave Chapelle threw.
No "real" follow up to Miseducation. Just an MTV Unplugged disc.
I was watching MTV2 [which is MTV with the number 2 after it] and the VJ asked a rapper what was in his ride and he mentioned something about a underground Fugees release. So...

Like she did the song "killing me softly".
A real talent Lauren Hill.

Hill is ten times the writer Flack will ever be. Talented indeed.

This knock is especially funny since Roberta Flack didn't even write that song....

I wish I could remember where I had read the article--rollingstone.com, maybe?--but it was a legitmate music publication, but if I can remember, she was living in Miami in an almost Salinger-esque seculusion working on her next album. But the reporter made it seem like she had flipped a little, cutting off connections with everyone from family, friends, record execs, just her and her baby, husband/boyfriend, paranoid of everyone trying to find her. Recording sessions were assigned, then shifted, then scrapped, or when everyone was gathered, she was erratic in her concentration, composure and the sessions would end, or she would dismiss all the musicians, hire new ones, start over again...it was a continuous cycle.
Now, I do remember, either it was Hill herself or someone associated with her, refuting the various musicians that were quoted, or people that were interviewed...This was a year, year and half ago I read that article. Either way, it was strange, but not entirenly unbelievable either, as she seems after her first album to be seeking a more private life.

If you listen to the Unplugged disc, you'll see she was close to the edge of insanity back then. She's probably gone over by now. It's too bad, Miseducation is fantastic.

That's right Hill didn't sample it , she sang it just like Roberta Flack.
Now NO DOUBT did a remake of IT"S MY LIFE, but made it their own with that wonderful remake. That's a sign of true talent.
And over the years the song THE LOCO MOTION has been remade and became hits of each of the artists who remade them.
But each artist made it sound different, unlike Hill who sings KILLING ME SOFTLY the same way Roberta Flack did. And of course the teen listens to that great song and buys it and thinks HIll is a true artist.
