That's truly sad to hear, its like the last nail inthe coffin...I grew up in the DC area and used to enjoy the station just prior to moving down to Fl. ( 1998) Though most of our stations down hear suck, particualrly for music ( We do have some good talk radio, most of the time.) Well until I can afford XM, I can at least say that we have good alternative music on the weekends (104.1) particularly Sunday Nights...

This sucks.
They did the same thing here a year ago, only it was a fairly new (owned by Citadel but on the air for about a year and a half) truely alternative station. They played old stuff and new, and Tyson Meade - lead singer of Chainsaw Kittems and one of my favorite bands - was a dj, it was awesome, except they had some crappy morning show from Detroit so I never listened in the morning drive. Upon going home I switched it over and it is all spanish, I wanted to scream, no warning, just poof!! I think they were stealling ratings from the Citadel's big Rock station and they did not want this for some reason.

No, it is just HFS on weekdays starting @ 7PM - 3AM and all weekend. Stern, Out to Lunch (they should replace these guys with the Sports Junkies) and Don and Mike are still on.

hey maybe since they are on 105.7 (which is a baltimore station, they can do the festival this year at teh m&t bank stadium where the ravens play.
they did this one year but the station said at the time because hfs didn't have a big enough following in baltimore.

Talk about random gone, random back. My friend sent me the following today:
It's amazing how much the music scene has changed and how we consume music since they went off the air. That summer I first subscribed to Sat radio and haven't gone back to terrestrial. Listening to Spotify now actually as well. Good news for the DJs and staff, but this may be too little too late from a CBS Radio perspective.

The same thing happened to KNAC in Long Beach/Los Angeles 16 years ago. It was the best Hard Rock and Heavy Metal station in the world (seriously - it was generally accepted as the world wide leader in the genre when it came to commercial radio), and it was sold off and converted to Spanish language music.
This despite the station doing extremely well in the ratings for a low wattage station.
That was depressing.
I'm sure this was, too, for fans of that genre.
Nice to see they brought it back. I just wonder for how long.

I'm sure they'll "stick" to the 90's alt rock that made the station famous (in this area) but i wonder if they plan in the long run to play newer stuff from those bands (w the chili peppers and the foo fighters w new albums and what not)
