New Order "Waiting for the Sirens Call" in March

Looks like this new album should be available March 28th. I think that's probably a UK date, but US releases of the last few New Order albums have generally been the same week (not including the box set). New single "Krafty" (a Kraftwerk pun, perhaps?) should be out March 7th. Descriptions put half of the album as rockier like "Get Ready" while the rest is a more dance affair like "Technique". I absolutely can not wait for this album.

Gillian has officially left the band. Should be interesting.

Hiro11 01-12-05 10:03 AM

I really didn't like Get Ready when I first heard but it has grown on me. Now I think it's one of their better albums. This one sounds like a return to the Technique days. Can't wait.

Cool. Good news. Like putting on a comfy pair of jeans!

megashock5 01-13-05 10:21 AM

The fact that it's getting compared to Technique has me very excited.

is this band ever going to tour the US? they seem tend to stay pretty much near home and not venture outside Europe and the UK.

That sucks. But then maybe that means that she'll put out another "The Other Two" album.

I'm looking forward to hearing the new single.

New Order has always seemed less than live in concert. And by that I mean they just stand there behind their keyboards. At least, that's how they were back in the 80's. They may be a bit more animated on stage these days.

Guess I'm just trying to make you feel better in case you never get the opportunity to see them live.

That would be awesome if she put out another "The Other Two" album. I really liked the first one.

I don't think you are missing anything, I have a lot of friends who are hardcore New Order fans and they all say they s*ck live.

Actually, there was a second one. It wasn't released in the states (I had to import mine), titled 'Superhighways.'

I'm dying to hear the new stuff. This looks to be great year for music with this one plus new stuff from Moby, Coldplay and NIN. If Radiohead put an album out this year, that would be icing on the cake.

The Exister 01-21-05 01:32 PM

I prefer the Power Corruption & Lies sound to the Technique sound.

shaggy 01-21-05 10:59 PM

The new single was played on Radio today, is it available to download anywhere?

hal9000 01-22-05 01:10 AM

If anybody's on the fence about New Order being a good band to see live I suggest purchasing either one or both of their most recent "live" dvds "New Order 316" or "New Order 511" both can be found for around $12 each from Rhino records. I too thought they weren't the greatest live bands but that was back in the 80's when they were high as kites, they admit to this fact in interviews. But I can only hope and think that as they have gotten older that their need for getting wasted has subsided. Anyway both of these dvds imo are awesome and I would recommend both of them to people that have their doubts, plus it's way cheaper than having to shell out big bucks for overpriced concert tickets.

Enjoy.

I bought 316 today (before reading this post ;)) and it contains a concert in NYC '81 and their performance at the Reading Festival '98. The two shows are like night and day. '81 is better for a historical perspective, because they don't talk to each other or the audience and '98 is better for a great listening experience because they really seem to be having fun with the crowd.

I just listened to Krafty (the new single) and I am hooked. I can't wait for the new album (probably going to have to import it...) and I hope that they go on tour and come somewhere near Philly :).

atlantamoi 01-22-05 07:23 AM

I saw New Order in '86. It didn't really blow my socks off... and at the time they were easily my favorite band. But I saw that Reading Festival '98 on TV last year and was very impressed. I'd go see them again for sure.

I got this from another music site... apparently you can hear the new New Order single about 12 minutes into this show:

Wow!!! That is an amazing song. I can't wait for the cd to come out.

hal9000 01-22-05 05:24 PM

Brain Stew, I agree with you on the differences between the '81 gig and the '98 concert, and although I feel that earlier in their career they were more innovative and groundbreaking (which I love), it wasn't until the late 1980's that their sound became less clumsy. I do prefer to see them as the young New Order as opposed to the mid 40's kind of haggard looking New Order. Yeah, it's not the same but yet they still sound amazing!

Now I wish Warners or Rhino would release another great 1980's show of theirs from Japan on dvd called "Pumped Full Of Drugs" I have it on vhs and it's really weird because the crowd is as "stiff" as the band! Plus, Warners needs to release "The New Oder Story" on dvd I have the 2 hour laser disc version, IT'S AWESOME! I especially love seeing the commercial they did for Orange Crush soda, and their god awful Baywatch music video, priceless! Warners hurry up!

I remember reading an interview with Bernard Sumner, and he said that they had to tape a check to the recording booth with how much they were getting for the soda ad, so he could get through the jingle without laughing. They rewrote "Blue Monday" to fit the jingle (I think it was Sunkist, to be anal), if anyone has never heard it. I think it was something like "How does it feel, drinking in the sun, Sunkist is the one".

As far as live stuff, theres actually some really good live performances on the "Retro" box set.

What is this exactly? Just a typical documentary?

Its sort of a documentary mixed in with videos and live performances. I never had a laserdisc player, but there was a VHS version available in the US which, from what I understand, was shorter than the laserdisc so I guess technically I haven't seen the whole thing. It came out around the time of Republic. I remember one thing has members of New Order playing a gameshow answering trivia about their lives hosted by Factory records head Tony Wilson. I haven't seen it in years, but I remember it being very good.

uteotw 04-26-05 01:15 PM

Anyone get this today (US release date, 4/26)?

I did and so far I really like it...

I've heard all the tracks and really want it. But I am broke :(.

chinolofus 04-26-05 01:47 PM

edit

tofu 04-26-05 05:27 PM

I've been listening to it for about a week now and I like it. Much better album overall than Crystal, it actually kind of reminds me of Republic which I also really liked.

I'm going to see them in concert at the end of June and I can't wait.
