New Queens of the Stone Age

New record titled Lullabies To Paralyze is set for release March 22nd. QOTSA is one of my favorites, so March 22nd is a great day.

Although I'm a huge QOTSA fan and am very excited to hear the new album. QOTSA without Nick Oliveri is like corn flakes without the milk.

woofman 12-05-04 09:36 AM

I can't wait to hear it! I think the negative impact of the band now being sans-Oliveri should be minimal, as Homme is pretty much the creative genius behind it all.

I forgot to mention that dave grohl isn't the drummer for the record either, they have the drummer from ween.

That sucks. Grohl really added quite a bit of energy to the last album.

Gunshy 12-05-04 11:44 PM

Didn't QOTSA just call it quits? Or was that an over-reaction to Nick departing?

I still like the first CD the best, kinda downhill for me from there tho I concur having Grohl in there was nice.

They didn't break up, and are hard at work on the new album. Here's a recent update from their official website www.qotsa.com

Lullabies To Paralyze
Ladies And Gents,

"Greetings. Since I've been appointed QOTSA Spokesperson Of The Month for November 2004, I'd like to make the official announcement that the new QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE record entitled "Lullabies To Paralyze" will be released to all you fine folks on March 22, 2005. I know March may seem far off (to me anyway), but when the creative engine is chugging at full steam, it's hard to stop. In other words, songs are still being recorded as we speak. We've just put the finishing touches on "TheFun Machine Took A Shit & Died", which I think is a good title for a tune so strange. The session started out relatively normal, but then took a turn for the bizarre, once longtime friends Dean Ween, Chris Goss & Jesse "the devil" Hughes scarred this song with their musical branding irons. "

Can't wait for March 22nd either. I've been waiting a long time too, since they initially said the end of this year. I guess the Nick fiasco threw a wrench into things. I don't really think they'll miss nick too much. Maybe not as many short, pointless (albeit fun) songs like Tension Head and Six Shooter...

I forget where (might've even been here) but I recall Josh saying he's returning to the tranced-out vibe of the S/T, which makes me look a bit less forward to this one. I don't mind S/T but I find it harder to get into than the straight up good rock and roll on SFTD and [R]. Maybe I'll give it another listen when I'm high or something.

Either way I can't wait because more albums means more touring and more good live music!

FYI - BestBuy will have the Deluxe Edition for $11.99 (seeing it $14.99 everywhere else) tomorrow. According to the ad - "Deluxe Edition includes a DVD video over 45 minutes long, featuring a "making of the album," Someone's In The Wall video, plus additional bonus footage."

The regular edition is $9.99.

If anyone wants to listen to the album, go to myspace and search for the following member: "queens of the stone age". They have a page up and you can listen to the album from start to finish.

Thrush 03-22-05 08:19 AM

It sounds like early QOTSA. Circa their self titled album. Its pretty good, but its definitely no "Songs for the Deaf".

Rypro 525 03-22-05 03:12 PM

heard on squizz xm that they are also rereleasing the first album repackaged.

Giles 03-22-05 03:21 PM

fans should also check out Songs for the Deaf and Rated R which were expanded version for their UK releases:

I like it so far, but this new album's missing Dave Grohl's touch, that's for sure.

dpganz 03-22-05 11:25 PM

Wow, I'm amazed how I never even realized Dave Grohl was apart of this band. I've more recently begun really listening to them, and always loved the foo fighters. Just crazy how I've never heard that.

Edit: Ah, found more info on how he contributed to the band. I thought from the above comment that he was a founding member, which suprised me even more because I listen to a bit of Kyuss also

slop101 03-23-05 09:37 AM

Well, I listened more to the new album and I gotta say I'm dissapointed. It doesn't suck, or anything, but it just doesn't have the balls of the previous album. That, and this new album is, in a way, rather monotonous.

that's the main reason why I'm slow picking this up. Dave's drumming with QOTSA (and the Tenacious D) were perfect. I'd immediately pay for any album he plays drums on....

slop101 03-23-05 10:11 AM

^ did you get Probot?

yeah and love it. (not sure why I didn't include it in my post).

Grohl's also drumming on the upcoming Nine Inch Nails album. Now if he would only drum for Foo Fighters...

Still not received my QOTSA CD/DVD from CD-Wow yet.
They seem to list the dvd as having quite a bit of substantial material and having several music videos (????!!) whereas everywhere else is merely listing Studio footage and only the 'Someone In The Wolf' video....i suspect CD-Wow is incorrect?

Much appreciated :)

Apocrypha 03-23-05 11:40 PM

Caught them on Letterman last night, decent stuff but not exactly rampagingly rocking. I am gonna pick it up tomorrow anyway but I want to know if the extra DVD is worth shelling out for, sounds from what I've read that there are unreleased videos other than the one for Somone in the Wolf.

As far as I can see, the DVD included a little under a half hour of studio footage and interviews, a ten minute "fake" interview with Josh and Sara Silverman playing a shrink hired by Interscope records, and the seven+ minute video for someone's in the wolf.

The studio feature was pretty cool as was the video. The interview was pretty boring. Unfortunately, no other videos were included.

Worth the extra $2 that BB is charging for it this week but not much more.
