Recommend some Christmas songs

My wife wants me to make her a playlist of Christmas music for her mp3 player so I need some suggestions.

I've already thought of:

The Pretenders: 2000 Miles
John Lennon: Christmas; War is Over
The Waitresses: Chrismas Wrapping

So I'm looking for stuff along those lines. More traditional songs ok too.
Jewel's: Joy To The World is nice

ABSOLUTELY NO: Springsteen: Santa Clause is Comin to Town
That song should go away forever.

So what's out there?

Lots and lots and lots and lots...

(those threads should give you some ideas)

I will say that my all-time favorite "modern" Christmas song, next to "Fairytale of New York," is "Merry Christmas Eve" by Better Than Ezra. Laugh at them for being a one (or so) hit wonder, but that's a great tune.

If you like electronic music, Old Navy's selling a comp this year of Christmas song remixes - Jazzy Jolly. I picked it up last night and, at $4.75, it's a steal (although some tracks were duplicated from Christmas Remixed, which I bought last year). Might be fun just for the novelty factor.

Other CDs I picked up in the last month or so (all great):
Barenaked Ladies - Barenaked for the Holidays
Chris Isaak - Christmas
Holly Cole - Baby, It's Cold Outside

I think my current all time favorite has got to be a tie between the Vince Guaraldi Trio's A Charlie Brown Christmas and Dean Martin's Making Spirits Bright, both of which have surpassed my boyhood fave - Johnny Mathis's Merry Christmas.

Also check out the free legal downloads thread stickied at the top. I posted links to two fun lil' holiday songs.

Winter Wonderland by the Eurythmics is a nice cover.

A Charlie Brown Christmas album is an excellent one. With a touch of R&B, Toni Braxton's Snowflake is a great album. She even does a wonderful version of "Christmastime is Here", one of the well-known tunes on the CB special. And I love Vanessa Williams so I bought her first Xmas album, Star Bright. She has a new Xmas album, Silver & Gold, I'm planning to buy.

Run DMC - Christmas in Hollis
Ramones - Merry Christmas Baby [I Don't Want to Fight Tonight]
Buster Poindexter/Louis Armstrong - That You Santa Claus?
Weird Al - Christmas At Ground Zero
Spike Jones - All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth

If you have XM Satellite Radio, turn to channel 83, they're playing Special XMas which is the bizarre side of Christmas. They also have a three-day free online trial which you could check out to hear some good [and not so good] ones. Yesterday thye played the Star Wars Christmas song.

Some of my favorites:

"Christmas with the Devil" by Spinal Tap
"Dead by Christmas" by the Hanoi Rocks
"Santa Claus is Smoking Reefer" by Squirrel Nut Zippers
"Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues

The Vandals also put out a punk Christmas album with such chestnuts as "Hang Myself from a Tree," "Oi to the World," and "A Gun for Christmas."

Probably not what you're looking for, though.

Mr. Hanky's Christmas Classics has some dandy holiday songs, such as Christmas Time in Hell, Merry Fucking Christmas, and Dead, Dead Dead.

Check out this album. I don't think it ever made it to CD.

Rusty Chevrolet by Dah Yoppers

Snoopy's Christmas by Royal Guardsmen

Christmastime by Bryan Adams

[b]Something In The Chimney (The Chimney Song) by ?

I'm Gettin' Nothin' For X-mas by Spike Jones

Hannakah Song by Adam Sandler

oh, and don't forget about Heat Miser and Snow Miser from the Christmas TV show A Year Without A Santa Claus

...and I still like Springsteen's Christmas song. I very much hate all the lousy remakes of John Lennon's Happy Christmas (War Is Over). Stick with the original. And best.

Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helm is timeless and fun.

Cindy Brady does a cute version of Frosty The Snowman

That's enough from me.

I would suggest the entire Calypso Christmas album by the De Paur Chorus. Classic stuff. I have heard it every Christmas Day since I was 3 weeks old.

When I heard the following song I had to buy the cd. It starts off all nice and classical like and then goes punk.

Christmas Time For My Penis

The Vandals
(Oi To The World)

I see you've been feeling down
When I needed you, you've been around
So this year I've a Christmas surprise
that will make your spirits rise...

I think back on the times, when you've always been there for me
And when things seemed unclear- you did the thinking for me.

I owe you so much that its hard,
to repay you for all the good times
and I won't forget you this year..
It's Christmas time for my penis.

I know I have let you down when you just needed a hand
When I was uncertain, you showed me that I am a man

I owe you so much that its hard,
to repay you for all the good times
And I'm going to give you the joy
that you've earned this year pal...
It's Christmas time for my penis.

I owe you so much that its hard,
to repay you for all the good times
It's Christmas time for my penis.

I know you've been feeling down,
all pent up its so hard to breathe
Don't fret this Christmas-
you'll get the attention you need

I love you so much that it's hard,
to repay you for all the good times
we'll get whores and pornography-
your special holiday, pal...
It's Christmas time for my penis.

Don't forget the Mistletoe belt buckle.
