Music DVD Playback Question Re: PCM Stereo

OK, I originally put this in the hardware forum but no one answered it. Since it's related to Music DVDs I figured it would be OK to ask here:

I have a couple of quick questions. If you play a music in PCM Stereo, what surround mode do you set your receiver to, because my receiver is default set to Dolby Surround in order to detect and play DVDs in 5.1 DD. When I leave it in that mode and select PCM on a DVD, it sounds different than if I change that surround setting to STEREO. I don't know which is correct to have it on. I also have a multi-channel input mode (so that I can play DTS, as my receiver doesn't have a DTS Decoder, but my player does). Should I use the Multi-channel mode instead for stereo?

Also on music DVDs with two formats, do most prefer PCM or DD5.1? I've heard that PCM is supposed to sound better, but I'm probably not playing it the right way and don't appreciate any improvement.

For a PCM stereo track, set your receiver to stereo. PCM isn't encoded for surround, so any surround setting on your receiver will produce false, gimmicky surround.

My personal preference is usually for the PCM stereo track. PCM is uncompressed compared to Dolby Digital, but beyond that, it's justa matter of whether or not the surround mix was done well or not.
