The problem seems to be with Eddie, and Alex being a yes man to whatever Eddie says.
Alex needs to get some balls and bitch slap his brother and look him in the eye and say your drinking cost you your wife and is now costing us a big payday by not getting back with Roth!

Feb. 12, 10:50AM ET) -- Sources tell TMZ that Van Halen is in the market for a new lead singer, and the marketplace will be the upcoming reality show 'Rock Star: The Series.'

Last October, Van Halen reps vehemently denied the band would use 'Rock Star' in a talent search for a new lead singer. The reps are now singing a different tune. Van Halen publicist Larry Solters told TMZ: "I'm not denying it. I'm not going to answer any questions about it."

Last year, the band INXS used 'Rock Star' to find a new lead singer. J.D. Fortune won the competition, and the band is now making a comeback with a hit new album and a sold-out tour.

As for Van Halen, the group has had three lead singers since it hit the scene back in 1978: David Lee Roth, who left the band in 1985, Sammy Hagar, who split in 1996, and Gary Cherone, who did just one album and tour with the band in 1998.

The next season of 'Rock Star,' produced by Mark Burnett for CBS, is scheduled to air during the summer. Neither Burnett nor CBS would comment on the Van Halen buzz.

Is it wrong to wish that Eddie had died when he had cancer?

Guess I'm the only guy who remembers those "Gary Cherone is the last Van Halen singer. If it doesn't work out, we'll just call it quits" quotes when III came out.

Oh please let them allow Roth, Hagar, and Cherone to be contestants.

Ugh! INXS stooping to this is one thing, but Van Halen? One of all-time favorite bands has become a reality footnote.

It's fine by me. It's not like Van Halen are ever going to be relevent again anyhow. At least this way we get to see an American Idol type show that actually has some good music. I loved Rockstar INXS, and even though the eventual winner was a total knob, there where some great performances.

This is fucking awesome news. While I publically stated I wanted AIC or Soundgarden, it was really VH that I craved.

Rock Star did a respectable job with INXS and they'll do the same with VH.

Geez I must be getting old. I guess the days of bands having a shred of integrity are long gone. People actually look forward to Van Halen finding their singer on a game show? Repulsive.

A game show? It's a competition. It's not guessing the price of Clorox bleach to within pennies or Slingo.

These people are performing rock songs, PICKED OUT BY THE BAND, in front of the band and America votes until the last three. It's the ultimate audition. It's quite apparent that you never saw the show or never saw enough of it to form a rational opinion.

INXS sold a ton of albums and sold out their tour. Worked for them, and it will work for Van Halen. INXS wasn't on anyone's mind before the show, and frankly, neither is Van Halen's.

I'd just like VH to put out one more studio album - as long as it's good. The last full studio album (VH III with Gary Cherone) was crap, and I'd hate to see that be the end of their career when it comes to full new studio albums.

Hell, maybe having fans pick three finalists for Eddie to choose from is a good idea - at least we know it would be a better fit than Gary Cherone was.

I'd like to think that Eddie, Alex, and Mike have one more good album left in them....

Repulsive, heh heh that's hilarious...

It's going to be a sad, sad day seeing the guys on this. Well, not sad--probably really, really surreal as well...

On Rockstar _____ the fans dont pick or eliminate anyone...every week the fans vote for thier favorite and the lowest three vote getters have to perform a song by the band (here VH)...then VH picks who they want to cut from those 3...since theres no binding fan vote, VH can basically pick someone they like on day 1 and that person is guarenteed to win.

And BTW...music snobs should LIKE Rockstar_____ because it gives alot of talented, unsigned frontmen/women national exposure

Doesn't matter who the singer is, if they keep writing pussy songs, it's gonna suck anyway.

Yeah, I don't really follow this line of thinking.

I would think music snobs would not be interested so much in the national exposure end of it, especially as it relates to a C-grade-celebrity-hosted, ultra-popular network TV show revolving around the types of bands who play the types of songs that music snobs would tend to shun. I mean, music snobs are called music snobs because they're snobs about music. Are you really a music snob if you religiously watch a TV show about the search for someone to front a band who's sold 50 million albums?

The best example of this is Humans Being. What a monster verse riff and pounding vocal line.

Then the chorus about love.

Fucking bullhonkey nipshit.

And auditions are not competitions?
