Groups/artists you simply cannot stand, that everyone else seems to love...

There was a thread similar to this not too long ago, but the way it was worded was "artists you don't like who you SHOULD like". Since everyone has different opinions and tastes, I don't believe in things we "should" like. That suggests to me that we should allow Corporate America to dictate what we need to buy and listen to (if you want to overthink it, I guess ).

So in response to that previous thread, and to word it slightly differently, I was just curious as to what past or recent music artists/groups everyone simply cannot stand, no matter how hard you may have tried, or maybe you've just never liked their sound to even give them a chance. Groups who, when they come on the radio, you can't turn to another station fast enough, and it almost spoils your day for having been forced to listen to even one note of any of their crappy music. Groups that have been catapulted to superstar status for reasons you cannot fathom in your wildest imagination. Groups that you don't necessarily hate, but maybe when considering why people like them, you just don't get it.

Keep in mind that these are everyone's opinions, so we don't need to start heated debates or put people down for disliking someone you may love. Remember what Rob said in High Fidelity: "How can it be bullshit to state a preference?"

A few of mine are:

Lenny Kravitz
Boston (every song sounds exactly the same)
Elton John (does anyone understand what the hell he's saying?!?)
AC/DC (proof that gargling with razor blades can further your career)
Bob Seger
Lynyrd Skynyrd (mostly has to do with the area I grew up in...too long to explain)
UB40
Aerosmith
Rolling Stones (probably the big one that I just plain don't get)
Outkast ("Hey Yah" has got to be the most annoying song ever recorded)

I don't hate things because they're popular, but I do detest people who like only things that are popular. Make sense? Good.

Examples:
Widespread Panic
Phish
Maroon 5 (these guys are awful and that's all there is to it)
Anyone on TRL
Snoop Froggy Frogg

P.S. If you think "Hey Ya" is the most annoying song every recorded, I urge you to listen to old country music and also more rap. Or just see Maroon 5 above...

Dude, I've always said that the word "crap" was divided into Country and Rap, and since that day they represent the two evil ends of the awful-music spectrum.

There is not a single song of theirs that I can listen to.

Tragically Hip is another band I cannot stand but are extremely popular.

All these Nickleback/Creed types and the pop/punk stuff like Good Charlotte, Sum 41......

I've read endless things about how great these bands supposedly are, and I've sampled tracks from every one of them, and I think they blow.

First one I thought of too.

Van Halen is the other big one that comes to mind. Besides "Right Now", which I mainly only liked for the video, I can't think of a single VH song that is good.

Radiohead
Pink Floyd

I don't get it. At all. I guess it's just not for me, but I like weird sounding bands a lot, just... something about both of those bands.

Coldplay- sounds like watered down Echo and the Bunnymen with a less interesting voice to me. It's also twenty years behind the times.

Dr, Dre: the guy can't rap for shit and hasn't made a good album outside of his debut (only half of which is solid anyway).
