Sum 41: Chuck

Great disc. Easily their best effort.

Only real flaw i have with it is that "Bitter End", allbeit a great song, is a COMPLETE rip off of Metallica's Battery. Its almost as if they did it on purpose.

Anyone else's thoughts?

So what does that have to do with this topic?

Curious what they sound like now. Did they change a lot? I read somewhere that, like Blink 182, they wanted to do a more serious album.

They have grown progressively harder and sound more like their heavy metal heroes now. As noted above, some songs sound like Metallica, while others remind me of Anthrax. Basically, Sum 41 has retained some of its neo-punk sound, but the guitars are very, very heavy.

For those who've heard the album, is it just me, or is there no bass whatsoever on Track 2?

Just listened to it, you're totally right there is hardly any bass.

I think this album is so much better because its not the same old punk crap that's come out in the last 2-3 years (probalby longer). Its like they were tired of that and wanted to play more metal. Sure there are a few songs that harken back to their old pop-punk, but most of this disc is hard.

I always thought Sum 41 were kind of metalish. I'll have to check this out.

I also get the feeling that they're trying to prove that they can play that hard and that fast. Just listen to the sheer amount of guitar on the album and all of the drum rolls.

I've heard several of the new songs on the radio. Definitely heavier. I like it.

BTW, I recently heard that they are going to have a song on the GODZILLA FINAL WARS soundtrack. Not sure if it will be a new song or what.
