Cake - "Pressure Chief"

So what's the buzz on "Pressure Chief" by Cake? I haven't read any reviews of it, but I'm a big fan of them. I think they are one of the most consistant bands out there. Some didn't like the departure of their guitarist before their last album, but I didn't mind. Just wondering people's thoughts...

(Oh, and the CD's $9.99 at Best Buy and Media Play, and $11.99 at Circuit City and Target this week)

the album has been getting horrible reviews..
i listened through it once and really didn't like any of the songs, and I have liked previous cake albums.

Bummer, I like them too. If I had heard good things, I probably would've picked it up.

I've loved cake in the past, but I never picked up the last album. Considered this one, but if everything is negative, I'll skip. Too many DVD's coming out I'd rather spend my money on.

The lead-off single, "No Phone", is pretty boring.

Just listened to clips of the album here. While it's not fair to judge an album on 30 second samples of each song, it doesn't seem as great as their previous efforts. It sounds like they are using more electronic bleeps and blips this time out (not necessarily a bad thing). "Dime" "Tougher Than This" and "The Guitar Man" sounded appealing, though.

Being the completist that I am, the question isn't whether I'll be buying this. It's more of "do I buy it tomorrow, wait for a used copy to turn up, or pick it up at BMG"?

Blah. I love their first two CD's but since their last CD I just can't take this crap anymore.

I'll probably pick them up and might even see their show in Chicago.

They were just on Leno and sounded like Cake. Mrs. Pusser is a bigger fan than I.

So has anyone actually bought this album and given it a good listen yet? I guess I'll have to find it online and give it a listen myself...

I bought it on Friday. At first I was very impressed, but after repeated listens, it's only okay. I'm a huge fan of Cake, but this one just isn't all that great. Nothing's particularly bad (except maybe "Carbon Monoxide"), but nothing's great either.

It's also too short. Under 40 minutes is just too short for a full length CD. If I hadn't have picked it up for $9, I'd feel ripped off.

I finally listened to this and am extremely dissapointed. I never heard their first 2 albums, but I LOVE Comfort Eagle. This album is just boring.
