it seems to lack the same "atmosphere" as the previous effort.

TripWire 10-01-04 07:11 AM

yeah supposedly they were going for more melody, but now to me their songs just sound like they could put a "the" in front of their name.

i liked the more moody atmospheric monotone sound better.

Geoff H 10-03-04 03:08 PM

I think I like TOTBL a little better, but Antics has still really impressed me. I like it... a lot.
It is a little "less dark", but I think they pull it off nicely, and the more melodic singing at times works really well.

Ralph Wiggum 10-03-04 03:57 PM

"Evil" is fantastic.

It is - I found myself playing it over and over again.

I like it much better than their 1st one, which basically sounded like a Joy Division tribute album to me. They've developed more of their own style this time, rising above influences.

Frank TJ Mackey 10-05-04 01:58 AM

I like the longer bits of carrying on and depressing themes of the first one better.

But, ANTICS is still a solid album. I want more, gotta find those b-sides on the imports.

I just got an email from the Interpol mailing list that to thank me for purchasing tickets to both of their Hammerstein Ballroom shows in November, I have been placed on the guest list for Sunday night's secret show at Bowery Ballroom. Gotta give thanks to a band that takes care of its fans like that.

The Bus 03-29-06 02:02 PM

I just want to remind others to give this album a spin again. A year and a half later it still holds strong and it's better than most other new stuff. I hope they get together to do a third album. Haven't heard of any news.

I still listen to it quite frequently.

I just want to remind others to look into Editors "The Back Room" instead
they have much stronger songs

I'm seeing them opening for stellastarr* tonight - I am SOOOOO siked.

The Bus 03-30-06 07:44 AM

Editors are good. Their best songs are better than Interpol's worst songs, but they have nothing to touch "Obstacle 1" or "Not Even in Jail" or "Evil" for example.

("Bullets" comes damn close).

Also, I find the band wouldn't be this good without Carlos Dengler (the bassist).

Giles 03-30-06 08:12 AM

Oh... My... GAWD!

wow! Editor's live were amazing.

stellastarr* were very good, but Editor's delivered a tight intense show.

Um, that's a year and a half... :hscratch:

I know what you mean, though.
It's always cool to see old threads revived.

I think Bloc Party is a better comparison.

Mano 03-30-06 11:56 PM

While I personally love both Bloc Party and Editors, Interpol remains my favorite band. That said it seems that they are in the process of recording their third album at the moment according to a little news update on Pitchfork.

atlantamoi 03-31-06 08:29 AM

Since time has had it's chance to work it's magic, I would have to say Interpol is my favorite new band from the past few years. Those two albums are everything I wish for in rock 'n roll.

Matthew Chmiel 03-31-06 03:22 PM

Antics is a great album, but when I saw Interpol live back in October, it had to be one of the worst concerts I've ever attended.

polietilen 04-28-06 08:23 PM

Does anyone know the name of a very recent band whose sound is very reminiscent of Interpol's, I believe they're british and their name starts with e . The album's cover is black and white. I've tried to remember their name but I just can't. :helpme:

Have you read any of this thread? Because if you're just trying to be sarcastic, you, sir, are no Groucho.
