Obviously we're talking about the difference between means and ends (though maybe this has been obvious to only me the whole time?). And both of you have yet to show me how the potential figures that I talked about earlier mean nothing. You can't insult me into believing you.

I'm not. I simply stated that I like both and why (and since the contents of this thread has diverted from the subject I think that's OK). I'm a fan of pop, I have all of Britney's albums and for the most part have enjoyed all of them. Madonna, however, is a superior artist in my opinion. Britney is ultra-produced and hasn't show much diversity...I wonder about her next album. The last was a little tiresome, kind of a re-tread of the previous three (there were only three songs that I liked). Madonna has shown musical growth in her subsequent albums.

None of this can be quantified in album sales, it's a matter of opinion, of what you like. I like them both, but as I mentioned Britney's act is getting a little dull.

Hence, her recent "marriage"...gotta find a way to keep her name in the media.

I don't care how many albums she sells to 12 year old girls. Her 15 minutes were up a LOOOOOOONG time ago... even before I went to her concert in vegas

Hence, Madonna's recent name change and OMG GETTING ON STAGE WITH BRITNEY. This thread is like a Dave Eggers book.

My reply had nothing to do with your attempt to quantify "fame". It was a response to iggystar's "Brittney's act is getting a little dull" comment.

Apparently though, the public might be starting to agree [displays of maritial idiocy notwithstanding]. Her last album, "In the Zone", spent a total of....one....week at number 1. By the fourth week it was at number 10. After that, it went back into the top ten [at number 6] for one week before dropping out again and never charting higher than number 12 after that.

However, her album before that, "Britney", fared only slightly better. It was in the top 5 for six weeks and dropped out of the top ten after seven.

But, i'm guessing that's not quantifiable..

Pop music's strength is the single. It doesn't surprise me at all that her album wouldn't sell as well.

And what do her albums sales have to do with Madonna performing with her?

Right, no need for anyone to get upset, the numbers don't lie. I'm so out of the Britney demographic (33 yr. old, black, mother, who lives in Detroit), but I still really love her albums, but it's getting tired. I like her music, but her fame is fleeting and her last album didn't even match her other fun pop, albums.

And....I'm not going to buy her albums for her voice, or the production values, or the lyrics. And I'd rather not pay $70 to see someone lip synch - she's a album label creation, equivalent to music junk food. But, I like my junk food too. And I'm buy the greatest hits too.

Steve Perry is arguably prettier than Britney Speared.

Actually, if I may take a moment out of my day to defend the Gin Blossoms (), they actually put out one previous album, Dusted, in 1989. Also IIRC there was a bit of a nasty breakup between the band and their record label, A&M, as the label was merged into the Universal fold, and they had no control over the release of what they felt was an unnecessary greatest hits album after their spring 1997 breakup. It was most likely Universal trying to make a buck off a band that didn't look like they were going to record any new music. I'm unsure what their current record label status is, though the band reunited to play some shows recently.

she's so done and used up now

she's falling apart right before our eyes

She doesn't even like how she looks now, she had to use a picture from a few years ago and photoshop her head on it.

They should have used the shot of her outside that gas station bathroom. I'd buy that for a $1.

So...how has this sold?

I was just curious as I was hoping it would crash & burn upon release. I have not heard anyone talking about it or seen any reports in the media (which is astonishing whether it did well or not).
