Hopefully this will lead to the release of an Unplugged dvd.

Her objection in the past was that she wanted a greatest hits CD with You Know Your Right as a single, and then a box set later.

So she got what she wanted, rather than giving in.

But, what good did that do? She won, but where's the victory? What did she gain from this? A GH CD will never sell as well as a much anticipated box set - mainly because one is more expensive than the other. Why the big hub-bub about a single CD, when You Know You're Right could have been a single even from a box set?

In the end, the "single" wasn't really a success - not in the same way Smells Like Teen Spirit was. Courtney Love wasted Nirvana's time, the Courts time, and Our time, as well. But I'm glad the Box set is finally comin' 'round - Nirvana was my favorite band, and I would have blindly bought anything they put out (and did), and felt very badly upon hearing the news of Cobain's passing.

Not sure what she wanted. She thought the single would sell the GH CD and make her more money in the long run than just doing a boxed set I guess.

I suppose she was right as the GH CD sold okay and many of us bought it and will buy the boxed set, so I'm sure she made some extra money in the process. But I'm sure she naively thought it would do much better business than it did.

The Greatest Hits album didn't do tremendously well - it debuted decently (#3), but broke Nirvana's streak of #1 albums: In Utero, Unplugged in New York, and From The Muddy Banks.... It didn't have much longevity either, but for a record of previously-released material, nobody really expected it to. So why did Courtney Love?

Courtney has said she tought the GH CD would do 10 million domestic, making her bucket loads of cash.

It sold, what, less than 2 mil?

That was my point. She "naively" thought it would do much better than it did and make her a lot of money.

www.cdjapan.co.jp lists the new Nirvana box set with limited DVD for a December 1 release (just got the email notice about it). Don't know what this means for the domestic release - anyone?

From The Internet Nirvana Fan Club

Some very interesting new details about the box set, from NME: "The long-awaited Nirvana box set 'WITH THE LIGHTS OUT' will feature 68 previously unreleased recordings. Released on November 22, the four-disc set will feature 81 tracks including 68 previously unreleased recordings - rehearsals, outtakes, Kurt's home demos, as well as a DVD which is confirmed to have unreleased band home movies, live footage, rehearsal footage and 20 full-length video performances. A 60-page booklet will accompany the release. A source told NME.COM: 'I've seen some of the footage and it's amazing stuff. There's a video of them performing at a friend's party with Kurt reading lyrics off a sheet of paper on the wall, footage of them covering Seasons In The Sun in a studio with Kurt on drums and lots of other great stuff.' The artwork for the set is currently being put together, with the likely choice being a 'landscape' box, retailing in the region of £40-50." Story courtesy of NME. Read it here. Thanks to Dinesh for the link. The box will be released on Nov 23 in the US. HMV have listed the box with a price tag of £42.99 (about $77 USD) on their website, while amazon.com suggests a list price of $59.98. You can pre-order the box set here.

I'm *hoping* they're various b-sides and other rare tracks that were commercially released, but not included on the albums.

There was a great live version of Rape Me on some bootleg I bought years ago. I hope this is included on this set.

I am looking forward to listening to their rendition of Seasons In The Sun.

Me too shaggy. That's a great boxset by the way. I'm sure there will be some stuff we've never heard. The live album had quite a few songs from shows that I never knew were recorded.

I'm sorry, but this is probably going to cost sixty dollars retail, and I don't think it's too much to ask for something more durable than a fucking greeting card.
How durable does a DVD case need to be? Do you need your disc in a metal attache case to carry it from the shelf to the player?
