Help with '50-'60's song title

This has been bugging me all day and I'm not sure if anyone can figure it out with the little info I have.

I don't remember the title of course or any lyrics of the song heh. I just remember the song being about a guy and his girlfriend being in a car wreak and she dying in his arms.

No, it just now popped into my head, the mind is a funny and sometimes frustrating thing.

J.Frank Wilson & The Cavaliers

Song: Last Kiss

Edit: Apparently Pearl Jam did a cover, just heard it. Just horrible, Eddie's voice just doesn't work with this song.

Yep, Last Kiss

Where, oh where, can my baby be? the lord took her away from
Me. she’s gone to heaven, so I’ve got to be good. so I can see my baby when i
Leave this world.

We were out on a date in my daddy’s car. we hadn’t driven very far. there in
The road, straight ahead. a car was stalled, the engine was dead.

I couldn’t stop, so I swerved to the right. I’ll never forget the sound that
Night. the screamin tires, the bustin glass. the painful scream that I heard
Last.

Oh where, oh where, can my baby be? the lord took her away from me. she’s gone
To heaven, so I’ve got to be good. so I can see my baby when I leave this world.

When I woke up the rain was pourin down. there were people standin all around.
Something warm flowing through my eyes. but somehow I found my baby that night.
I lifted her head, she looked at me and said. hold me darling, just a little
While. I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss. I found the love that i
Knew I had missed.

Well now she’s gone. even though I hold her tight. I lost my love, my life,
That night.

Oh where, oh where, can my baby be? the lord took her away from me. she’s gone
To heaven, so I’ve got to be good. so I can see my baby when I leave this
World.

And if you like Last Kiss, check out classic death songs Teen Angel, Tell Laura I Love Her, and D.O.A.

Heard a death song on XM the other day that I had never heard before...Ebony Eyes by The Everly Brothers. Very cool.

D.O.A. as in the song by Bloodrock? Damn, it's a death song but not like the other's listed. That song still bothers me a little...very haunting.

Damn...I am impressed WhoGirl. I did not know if anyone would have heard of Bloodrock. Very haunting song. I actually have the album cut on cd which is 7 or 8 uncut minutes of pure agony. Still a great death song but I guess I should not lump it in with the others. It did come out way back in 1971 though so I guess i was thinking of age.

By the way...in regards to Last Kiss...this was always a favorite song of my Dad's (who introduced it to me when I was a kid) and he said that either that group or some other group did an answer song to Last Kiss called "I Got My Baby Back" or something like that. Dad said it was a parody that dealt with the guy going back & digging the chick up who died in the Last Kiss song. Never could find that one though (but never really looked either).

There's a great novel called Fuel-Injected Dreams by... I think Robert Baker ... that's rooted in teenage death rock, first love, a Phil Spector-ish record producer and a late night dj. Great book. Funny, harrowing, dirty, heartbreaking...

That would be "I Want My Baby Back" by Jimmy Cross. It's available on Dr. Demento's 30th Anniversary Collection: Dementia 2000! which is how I know the song.

If you like death songs, listen to "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks. Basically, he's saying goodbye to everybody right before he dies. Here's a few of the lyrics:

Goodbye Michelle my little one
You gave me love and helped me find the sun
And every time that I was down
You would always come around
And get my feet back on the ground.

Goodbye Michelle it's hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
With the flowers everywhere
I wish that we could both be there

We had joy we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the stars we could reach
Were just starfish on the beach
