Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus...sung by....Johnny Cash EEK!

This is really odd. I suspect he sings it because he likes the song and because of his own faith, but it like listening to William Shatner do Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.

Just plain odd.

And this is news? The album came out ages ago, nearly 2 years now. I really like Cash's take on it myself. Like a hymn. It's nothing like the ridiculous Shatner song IMHO.

Not news by any means. Just new to me.

I am a fan of Cash, but this song.....ugh. Again, he must have done the cover because he really liked it, not because he could do it well.

Wow, criticism of Johnny "Jesus Christ" Cash. Be prepared to be hit by lightning any second now, brother.

Being a hugh Depeche Mode fan, I like it personally. I think it's almost as good as his cover of Hurt.

I actually liked most of the songs. Pretty edgy. Reminded me of Delia's Gone. He sang that on Letterman, and when he was done Letterman said, "I don't mind telling you, that scares the hell out of me".

The man writes great songs, but didn't really have the voice to do them justice later in his life. Similar to Willie Nelson.

Well I am a Depeche Mode and JR Cash fan, and I prefer his version. I really liked most of his remakes on the last few CDs, since they were stripped out and just featured his voice. His take on Sting's "I Hung My Head" is so far superior to the original that they are not even in the same ballpark.

I like his version of "Personal Jesus." Check out that piano!! If you want to talk about bad covers on that album, talk about "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face." Ugh, that was bad. Didn't think his "Desperado" was all that hot either.

Dig that album a lot, though.

I really enjoy his rendition of Nick Cave's "The Mercy Seat" from American III, as well.

I love Cash's version of Personal Jesus. Actually most of his covers are great, his version of Heart of Gold and Father and Son from Unearthed are just amazing.

I really like his covers (except for Desperado). Personal Jesus is no exception.

Maybe you'll like Marilyn Manson's cover of "Personal Jesus" that comes out this Fall.
