Keane: 'Hope & Fears' - thoughts?

I have been listening to this album pretty much non-stop and while many could say this is fail safe pop-rock, I really dig it. The band's music recalls Ben Fold's ballads, Suddenly Tammy and Geneva. The band's strength's are the lead singer can actually sing and great memorable melodies. Who else has picked up this album, what do you think?

BDB 06-01-04 10:03 AM

I like it but I like the earlier versions of the tracks better, Especially this is the last time.

I really don't like the version on the album. Its sounds way too tinny, and to be honest the whole album seems very very overproduced.

They appear to be the new coldplay, advertised as no guitars etc.

This is the last time was released last year sometime, and did nothing and then somewhere only we know hit big, so everything was repackaged and sent back.

Overall I like it, but need to listen to it more, there were just too many cds I bought in the last 2 weeks to concentrate.

I guess that's why I like it.

what have you bought and liked?

BDB 06-01-04 11:01 AM

These 6 all in the last 2 weeks. And in order I have listened to the most are.

The Charalatans - up at the lake
Alanis Morrisete - So- Called Chaos
Morrissey - You are the Quarry
The Streets - A Grand don't come for Free
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Keane - Hope & Fears.

I guess I know I will like the keane album and listen to it more, so I have left it on the backburner a bit, but based on your post its on my ipod now. I'll get you a link to the earlier versions later.

have to admit I really like the single "Everything" - how's the rest of the album? Gonna check if "Everything" has been released as a single in the UK?

Back to Keane - with the release of the album stateside, I hope a tour is in the works for us on the otherside of the pond.

BDB 06-01-04 12:52 PM

That's what got me to get the alanis cd, Italian MTV were playing it a lot, and I really liked it. The album is great.

Keane mintour.

i think Keane is fantastic, if you're in the mood

the moon-faced boy sings like there's no tomorrow

plus it's only 7 bucks new at some places (national outlets)

the ep and euro tracks are decent.

Giles 06-02-04 01:31 PM

unless it's a hidden track the US edition is missing the song "On a Day Like Today" which is on the 'special UK edition' of the album.

BDB 06-02-04 02:15 PM

Those special edition uk stuff are usually nothing special
I don't understand at all.

mine is the uk version though.

Hey, BDB do you actually have the early edition of the song?

On a side tangent, I would assume it would be silly of me not to think you are excited about the upcoming new Badly Drawn Boy album: One Plus One Is One coming out in the UK on June 21st. US release: ?

BDB 06-02-04 02:59 PM

Giles I'll put this up for a bit.

www.bdbfc.com/keane.mp3

And yes of course I am excited about the release of my album, I feel weird discussing it on a public forum ;)

Lest people think I am a shill.

Not sure what the US release date is.

whynotsmile 06-02-04 11:39 PM

i like it but all the songs sound the same. which isn't horrible, but it gets a bit boring after a while.

i dont see them as the next coldplay at all. coldplay had a lot more "tunes" and made more beautiful music on their first album

BDB 06-07-04 02:37 PM

We'll bump this one to avoid confusion.

Or merge the 2. So who downloaded the 1st version of
this is the last time, and what do you think of the difference between both tracks?

B.A. 06-16-04 08:10 AM

I'm listening to it at work for the second time. It sounds better than it did the first time - I think it's slowly growing on me. Might be a tad over-produced though.

Giles 06-16-04 09:24 AM

Heard their US radio single the other day, and it's my fave off of the album: 'Bend and Break'

BDB 06-16-04 11:43 AM

Everybody's Chaging is the one I like most.

Daytripper 06-17-04 08:45 AM

"This is the Last Time" is the best track on the album IMO.

BDB 06-17-04 11:03 AM

dissent among the fans of the album.

No common ground

BDB 08-02-04 09:30 AM

Pollstar only lists the Seattle show at the Showbox on the 7th, and The Avalon in Hollywood CA on the 11th. My fingers are crossed they have penciled in a DC show. Has an opener been announced, do you know?

BDB 08-02-04 11:21 AM

that doesn't surprise me, DC has gotten to be a pathetic place in terms of British acts playing gigs here, a few years back I was fortunate enough to be visiting SF and Art of Noise were playing a gig, talk about once in a lifetime experience.

Also I hate the new Washington DC club trend of starting shows (particularily the headliners at the Black Cat and the 9:30)) so late that one is forced to go home in a taxi, since Metro (subway) are idiots and stop running at midnight. (I don't own a car).

eisenreich 08-03-04 10:07 AM

Great cd, would definitely recommend
