sweet.

yeah, woo-hoo! this morning got my two tix to the show, two tix to the Snow Patrol show and one tix to Scissor Sisters.
Part of next paycheck will go to the purchase of tix to the Clinic, The Thrills, and Mouse on Mars shows at the Black Cat. |
I am off to see them tonight.
I'll miss snow patrol and the libertines as I'll be on the wrong coast, I did not get scissor sister tix, but may get them on the night of the show |
Keane reminds me a lot of Ambrosia or Queen in the late seventies. Huge hooks, layered vocals and overly clean production.
I would have to say my favorite cut off the CD is "Sunshine". Unfortunately, over all the writing is uneven. There are moments on this CD that you feel there is a genius at work and other times you just reach for the skip button. Plays more like a second effort then a first, but I have only had the CD for a week. I hope in the future they spend more time writing and less time producing. There is potential. 4 out of 10 |
The show was great, they rocked out, however the biggest negative, and I have read this on the keane message board is the lighting, its like a neil diamond extravaganza.
Great Show though, they had excellent energy, it was short, but they played each track from the album |
hey BDB,
how many songs did they perform: when you say "each track from the album" does that mean just ten, unless you factor in the other songs of theirs: - "On A Day Like Today" the extra track that's on the import UK edition of the album? any b-sides songs: like the brilliant "To the End of the Earth" - Can't Stop Now - Alllemande - Snowed Under - Walnut Tree - Something In Me Was Dying - Fly to Me ? |
Giles.
11 Tracks. Including the On A Day like today which they said everyone could download :) No B sides. I need me a UK Itunes account |
I just got their CD last week and just took them out the player. I too, noticed that it's a little overproduced - not that I usually mind such a thing, but as mentioned, at times sounds shrill, like there's too much treble or something.
I'm going to keep listening. It's like I'm enjoying it, but there's a little something missing. But I'm hard on all new music, so I'll keep listening. |
I really, really, really like "Somewhere Only We Know"...
|
I thought they were like Coldplay but all my friends tell me they are more like Travis.
|
I'd agree w/ your friends.
|
I'd be a hypocrite to say this (since I really like Keane) but I find that Travis' lyrics are far superior to Keane's.
Funny story: I was at a matinee the other day at Landmark Bethesda and they happen to play songs before the movie and one of them was a Coldplay song, the woman (older 70's-ish)behind me noted to her husband, "He sounds as if he's sick" (I tried so hard not to laugh, but I have to agree that too many musical artists today can write great songs, however not to many can actually carry a tune). |
the 9:30 Club show was great, BUT....
Keane were up in NYC performing on Conan O'Brien's show, and with the remnants of Hurricane thrashing around the DC metropolitan area, they had to fly back to DC and they didn't get on stage til real late - supposed to be on at 10 but didn't show up till 11:30-ish As a bonus they performed the song: "Alllemande". Is it me, or does lead singer Tom Chaplin, look like he trying to perform as a "Commitment's" wannabe - flipping his hair around and displaying various dramatic hand gestures/poses. All in all a fun show. |
Uhhh...i'm a little late to the party. I can't stop listening to this album. And I guess that means I'm right on time for the new album. Been listening to some tracks on aol and liking it.

You can thank me later...:p Btw...where did the "early" versions come from? I have a different version of Somewhere Only We Know. I had always thought that was the album version until I heard it in a movie commercial recently. |

Btw...where did the "early" versions come from? I have a different version of Somewhere Only We Know. I had always thought that was the album version until I heard it in a movie commercial recently. 1. Somewhere Only We Know 2. Bend and Break 3. We Might As Well Be Strangers 4. Everybody's Changing 5. Your Eyes Open 6. She Has No Time 7. Can't Stop Now 8. Sunshine 9. This is the Last Time 10. On A Day Like Today [Bonus Track] 11. Untitled I 12. Bedshaped There is the US version with a different track sequencing: 1. Somewhere Only We Know 2. This Is The Last Time 3. Bend And Break 4. We Might As Well Be Strangers 5. Everybody's Changing 6. Your Eyes Open 7. She Has No Time 8. Can't Stop Now 9. Sunshine 10. Untitled 1 11. Bedshaped The version with the DVD, as you noted, includes: Disc: 2 1. Somewhere Only We Know [DVD] [Instrumental Version][Multimedia Track] 2. Somewhere Only We Know [DVD] [US Version][Multimedia Track] 3. Everybody's Changing [DVD] [Multimedia Track] 4. We Might as Well Be Strangers [DJ Shadow Remix] A Dual Disc version exists: (with 5.1 sound option) (Identical to US tracklisting) Hopes and Fears [DUALDISC] [ENHANCED] A SACD version exists: (with 5.1 sound option) (Identical to US tracklisting) Hopes and Fears - SACD There is also a 'live' album: http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg 1. Somewhere only We Know - Recorded The Forum London, 10th May 2004 2. We Might As Well be Strangers - Recorded Columbiafritz, Berlin 19th May 2004 3. Allemande - Recorded BNN That's Live Session, Amsterdam 7th July 2004 4. This is the last Time acoustic - Recorded Mill Street Brewery, Toronto 20th September 2004 5. Everybody's changing - Recorded Airwaves Festival Reykjavik 23rd October 2004 6. Bedshaped - Recorded Brixton Academy, London, 17th November 2004 supposedly the early version of the album is less polished and commercial sounding (more 'demo like')- I believe the Fierce Panda UK singles are the songs from the first version of the album. and... lastly, the UK single http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P...2.LZZZZZZZ.jpg includes my favourite B-side song: 'To the End of the Earth' |
Other great B-Sides include:
Something in Me Was Dying Fly To Me Walnut Tree On a Day Like Today To the End of the Earth great stuff. |
I liked a few tracks, but I pretty much stopped listening to the album overall -_-
|
I'm so pissed. I bought the dualdisc today and my favorite song (on a day like today) isn't on it. :( I had downloaded the whole album from a torrent and that was on it. very very sad. :(
|
Have you all heard the new single? I downloaded it from ITunes, I quite like it.
