Now, you may call me crazy, but I would replace Black Dog and Rock and Roll with at least Achilles' Last Stand (long song) and maybe also Candy Store Rock, both from Presence. Presence actually has some good songs. BD and RnR are good songs, but you can turn on any classic rock station and hear them. Achilles' is just an incredible song.

Do it man, just do it. He will appreciate you more later.

hmm, might actually have to buy presance, and check it out. i've avoided the last 2 albums mainly because of from what i here, they're def not as good as any of the older stuff ,and there is too much synth work.

Pretty good list, but there's no way you can have a best of Zeppelin without When the Levee Breaks. That big echoey drum sound gives me chills just thining about it. Cut out Going to California and see if it'll fit.

there are a handful of songs i would add to the list
Down by the Seaside
In the Light
Night Flight
Tangerine

Any best of I made, single or double would HAVE to have these songs on it.

Those are all from their last album, Coda.

Also, Presence is their third-to-last album.

You definitely want to include "When the Levee Breaks" and "No Quarter." Why not buy the greatest hits "Early Days" and "Latter Days?" That would be legal, too.

Coda's not really an album, but a collection of rarities and outtakes.

I thought it was like half and half? Hmm..no, I was wrong. I must be thinking of some other band's last album. Don't I feel like an ass. I stand by my other suggestions.

i asked him about the early/latter days gh collection, and he didn't want that because those skip too many of the radio songs. (heartbreaker, dancing days, rain song, moby dick, hey hey what can i do, going to california, the ocean, fool in the rain, ect

and i never really liked "when the levee breaks"

there are only a few real duds in the Zep catalogue, but if i had to narrow it down to a teen number of songs with overall best, i'd go with:

1. Communication Breakdown
2. Dazed And Confused
3. Thank You
4. Heartbreaker
5. Living Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman)
6. Ramble On
7. Immigrant Song
8. Tangerine
9. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
10. That's The Way
11. Rock And Roll
12. Stairway To Heaven
13. When The Levee Breaks
14. The Rain Song
15. Over The Hills And Far Away
16. The Ocean
17. Trampled Under Foot
18. In The Light
19. Kashmir
20. Down By The Seaside
21. Nobody's Fault But Mine
22. All My Love

ah crap, i just can't possibly make the list less than 22. probably why Zep is my favourite band.

forgot "whole lot of love", and you can put about 30 songs per disc, so you can add a frew more.

Actually only "I Can't Quit You Baby" is from Coda, but it was also on their first album. They are two different versions both recorded around the same time. For my money, the version off Coda is better... and I think Plant agrees since he put that one on the very first Zeppelin box set. Rypro's right on the origins of the other two songs.

is the version of "achilles' last stand" thats on the live dvd, mostly similar to the version thats on album. esspecially since page loves to improvise live. I really liked that version. lets see, i could get rid of "misty mountain hop" and battle of evermore to fit that song on there.
