anyone here like Godspeed You Black Emperor?
Finally just listened to their last release, 2002's Yanqui U.X.O. This is ominous and intense stuff but terrific, I'm a little surprised at the overemphasis of bass and guitars compared to some of their older stuff. Anyone else into this post-rock outfit?

I was really into them a year ago. I thought that Lift Your Skinny Fists... was one of the greatest things I'd ever heard. Dropped $25 to see them in Feb. of 2003 and thought they had an awesome show, apart from Black Dice (who, in retrospect, I now would pay to see before GY!BE). Not that I have anything against them, they're just overwhelming and I can hardly find the time to throw on a 20-minute dirge these days.
As far as post-rock, the only bands I really listen to anymore are Do Make Say Think (one of my favorite bands), Explosions in the Sky, Tortoise and Yume Bitsu. Are the Jeweled Antler Collective and the New Weird America considered post-rock? I dunno, but I listen to some of that stuff.

Yeah, I first bought F#A#(Infinity) way back and really loved it, and have loved every album since...however, I find myself listening to the older stuff more often. I'd also recommend the band 'A Silver Mt. Zion' (also on Constellation Records), since it's basically made up of members from GYBE.

I like Lift your skinny fists the best...seeing them live is a trip they just all sit facing each other and play a non stop set, no talking to the audience or anything and then leave, it was really damn good.
you should check out A Silver Mt. Zion like Randy said, it's more chilled out with more strings.
You could also check out The Album Leaf or Jimmy LaValle's old band Tristeza for some other post rock, less dramatic than Godspeed though.

The new Tortoise is very good, Penny Lane.
I also saw The Album Leaf open for Sigur Ros. It was a pretty well-rounded show, but AL gets a little too new age-y for me.

Just out of curiosity---and this question is for anyone that saw Album Leaf & Sigur Ros---which show were you at? Personally, I was at the Philly show at Tower Theatre (in March).
By the way, speaking of "favorite billings"...Pedro the Lion's website is advertising that Belle & Sebastian will be playing at one of their (his?) shows. If it wasn't in Seattle, I'd be SO there...
