Bob Costas deserves a bitch slap to the face for not shutting up during her song. He and Katie's banter was overkill IMO.

Well, I listened to the album and it certainly is not more peppy than Vespertine.
I'd say Medulla is for hardcore Bjork fans only. It's almost all acapella/acoustic-kinda/dreamy pop. She's sounds really beautiful but I really miss Homogenic/Post Bjork. Plus, you cannot get this woman to tour anywhere besides 4 or 5 major cities in the U.S., so we shall see the reception it gets. This needs some instrumentation in the worst way. |
I must listen to this album now. NOW I SAY! That Medulla player isnt working for me. Nothing loads!

Originally posted by Rogue588 It's either a testament to the power that Bjork wields, or the faith her record company has in her to release something like this. Everything that Frank said is true and yet Fiona Apple is having trouble with releasing something that sounds slightly Bjork-ish. I think most people expect just about anything from Bjork. She's so "out there"(in a good way for most of us) she's given a pass on lotsa stuff. I believe the album will grow on people. When I 1st heard OCEANIA I must admit that literally my first thought was "UH OHHHH". I was worried about what BJORK was about to release. But I knew all was well when I couldn't get the damn song and it's weird little vocals off my mind an hour later.:lol: |
I listened to the album last night.
the 40 minutes went by quickly and I didn't hear one thing that caught my ear. I really like Bjork, but I like her for overall capabilities as a songwriter, not necessarily for experimentation in vocal inflections. This doesn't even seem like a legitimate album, it sounds more like just an idea to sell to her fans. |
Well, considering Medulla's built entirely from vocal tracks, with no instruments appearing on the album whatsoever, one should know that this was certainly not going to sound like her previous albums.
|
Yeah but I guess I thought it would be more captivating, I expected more from the guest vocalists also.
I know the album was to be expected, I just don't know why she chose to go in that direction. |

so I was listened to the album a couple times last night (since it's so short) and it has grown on me, I just kinda here it for what it is now and accept it more and enjoy it.

anyone know if the DVDAUDIO version is coming out in the US tomorrow?
|
Haven't taken the time to listen to it yet, but the review at allmusic.com has me very interested in hearing this. From the review:
Throughout Medulla, her voice is miked very closely, and with the dense layers of vocals surrounding her, it often sounds as if you're listening to the album from inside her larynx. Toward the end of "The Pleasure Is All Mine," a contented sigh repeats in the left channel, juxtaposed against an almost weeping sound on the right, giving the song an unusual depth and ambivalence. Some of the heavy breathing, grunts, and ululating woven into the album come close to provoking physical reactions: the massed vocals, eerie sighs, and throat singing on "Ancestors" make the chest ache and border on the animalistic, suggesting a particularly melodic pack of wolves. |

Two listens in and I enjoy it. "Where is the Line," in particular, is very impressive.
|
No one listens to me.
I told you guys it would grow on you.... |
Its a terrific album. I love it.
|
I enjoy it thusfar. I guess I was hoping for something exciting again, after the very mellow Vespertine. I was also thrown off by the first "single" being Oceana. I don't find that song to be up-to-par at all.
|
I plan to pick it up this afternoon. I'm highly intrigued given you guys' opinions and reading assorted reviews...

|
I haven't listened to the whole album so far, but man, I just love "Where Is The Line With You," a vocal apocalypse, amazing stuff!
|
Where is the Line is great, but Who Is It is the real gem on this album.

Yeah I visited the site and saw that also. It's definitely the most commercially viable song on the album. While WHere is the line is experimental and brilliant Who Is It is simple and fun.
Great album GP Loves Little Bjork  |

Great album GP Loves Little Bjork  The "coolness" and "awesomeness" of Bjork is that you never know if she'll remix a song into a totally new beast. |
