How many CDs do you own?

I own only about 10 :(

Re: How many CDs do you own?

I had about 150-200, all in a car carrying case. I brought the case into my office to listen to some at work. Within a couple of hours, it disappeared and I have not seen them since.

So now i have 12. :-/

meritocracy 03-30-04 12:12 PM

Way too many...

BRIAN 1972 03-30-04 12:20 PM

between my wife and I:

1200 or so

Gdrlv 03-30-04 12:26 PM

Well over 800 at my place. I've probably got a couple hundred more at my parents' place.

edclem 03-30-04 12:47 PM

in the 800 neighborhood here.

Dubya 03-30-04 12:53 PM

Around 500 to 600.

woofman 03-30-04 01:08 PM

Around 300

spinning plates 03-30-04 01:15 PM

i think 593 last time i checked my rn profile.

nodeerforamonth 03-30-04 01:21 PM

Too afraid to count. Last count was around 1,500. Probably have about 1,800.

the narrator 03-30-04 01:21 PM

My last count was at 814, but i've traded in several to spun recently so I would say in the neighborhood of 750-775

Josh H 03-30-04 01:28 PM

Around 250.

SAShepherd 03-30-04 01:52 PM

Around 300-325, and plan to keep it that way -- I now get rid of one CD for every new CD I get.

I remember another thread along these lines a year or so ago... would be interesting to see whether people increased or decreased over that period.

Oh, and antennaball, sorry, that sucks.

the aftermath 03-30-04 01:57 PM

Probably about 250.

deadlax 03-30-04 02:04 PM

had about 600 but sold about 150. So somewhere in the ~450 ballpark. Kept the essentials.

I recently had to modify my CD shelves to house another row (meaning another 180). When it's full, it's full. I've been rating my CDs at work to determine if I really want certain ones.

My system:

+1 for great song
+.5 for a good song
Any greatest hits album (x .66)
Of course adjusted for the length of the album

I'm finding that CDs I thought were good, are not in fact any good. Those get tossed.

But you have a good idea, and I will probably get the point where I have to implement something like that pretty soon.

The Cow 03-30-04 02:07 PM

probably in the 1000 area.

might be nice to make this into a poll with ranges... (just a thought)

auto 03-30-04 02:24 PM

As of today, 799

wendersfan 03-30-04 02:38 PM

A lot. Thousands and thousands. I have even more vinyl LPs.

WhattheFFF 03-30-04 02:51 PM

Was up to about a 1000 but they got too cumbersome so I ripped them all & sold them all on half.com. Now have about 10 but who knows where they are.

SnoopDogg 03-30-04 03:11 PM

Probably around 200 or so.

cactusoly 03-30-04 03:24 PM

My god ! well over 1000

Scorpio 03-30-04 03:25 PM

Somewhere over the 1500 mark. I should make a new count.

Ergyu 03-30-04 03:35 PM

Somewhere around 500.

davidlynchfan 03-30-04 03:35 PM

Nearly a 240sx today, Had a 350z at one point but sold some of it.

Also got about 200 12" and lps.,45 mini-discs (boots).

fallow 03-30-04 03:38 PM

I would love to dig through Wendersfan's vinyl. I probably own between 300-400 currently. I've probably sold that many, as well.

So would I... Almost all of them are boxed up and sitting in a room in my house. Ever since we moved a few years ago I haven't had time or the energy to deal with them properly. I've got a few hundred out for listening, and that's it.

Most of my collection, other than the usual Beatles, Dylan, Stones, Who stuff, is late '70s/early '80s new wave and punk. I've got lots of 12" singles by New Order and The Smiths, and who knows what else. I know I've got far too much stuff by bands that no one thinks about any more - anyone care about Comsat Angels? I didn't think so. How about Payola$? Thought not...

atlantamoi 03-30-04 04:20 PM

Wenders, I've got both the Comsat Angels and Payolas on vinyl, too! "Eyes of A Stranger" is a pretty good song.

2,000 + discs.

The other night my wife and my cousin both went through my collection and picked out 10 Cd's they thought looked really weird and then played cuts deep into the recordings to see if I could figure out who the artist was (I own some discs I've probably only listened to one time). I got 9 out of 10 and felt proud of myself... heh heh. My first reaction to a few of the CD's was, "Wow, that sounds pretty good". Didn't know right away what I was listening to.

Hollowgen 03-30-04 04:30 PM

as of right now, 625. i'm constantly trading in used cds that i find to be less-than good. unless it's an artist that i really like, i usually keep my music based on allmusic's ratings, and whether or not i actually listen to the cds. i generally don't keep anything that i would agree is below a 3.5/4 star rating.

milo bloom 03-30-04 04:32 PM

Probably a couple of hundred (with a disproportianate amount being import singles, bad habit). I can't get a good count because I can't find a good CD tracking software like DVDAficionado. I've tried Guzzlefish and it just sucks. At this point, I'm willing to pay a small subscription if I could have a site for my CDs and video games, another collection out of control.

Any suggestions?

Somehow, I figured you might. That whole side of the Payola$ album is great. I don't think they were ever able to do anything as good ever again, sadly. So, how much Bram Tchaikovsky do you have on vinyl? :)

Only "Girl of My Dreams" on CD. Uh, okay, so how much Deaf School do you have on vinyl? hee hee JK The majority of my vinyl sat in a friend's basement for 4 months in '02 while we were in the process of moving and they all got waterlogged. I wasn't heartbroken, but some pretty cool graphics went bye bye.

</small>Needless to say I went looking for it the moment I saw this thread.... but couldn't come up with the right search string!

Anyway, I've not bought many these past 12 months and expect I'm in the 300s.

tha_dvd_man 03-30-04 05:58 PM

Almost 200. That seems like a lot for me (a couple years ago I had, like, 15 or so), but seeing you guys with ~1000+ makes me jealous.

sataniko 03-30-04 06:31 PM

about 200

Ginwen 03-30-04 07:56 PM

588 on Guzzlefish, plus about 75 more that aren't in Guzzlefish

reverie 03-31-04 07:05 AM

Probably somewhere between 1000-1100. I could never find enough music to buy! ;) Also about 300 vinyl and about the same on cassette (though I'm trying to weed those out).

illennium 03-31-04 07:21 AM

Between 1000 and 1100. I'm in the process of selling off about 150 to 200 older, crappier discs that it pains me to have in my collection.

custom001 03-31-04 08:01 AM

I stopped counting, but around 5000, including singles.

(I work at a record company)

Hiro11 03-31-04 08:54 AM

I've got about 2700 cds. I used to be an addict but being a parent, having a mortgage and the siren call of DVDs has put the kabosh on CD buying....
