funk-rock jam bands?

Recently I've kinda gotten into, I suppose, 'funk', but I only rarely hear any stuff that I really like. It's usually either too soft or has some instrumentation that I really dislike or has too much of a jazzy sound to it or too much from this genre or that genre, whatever. I suppose what I'm looking for specifically is guitar-oriented funk-rock jam band type stuff. Any recommendations? It doesn't have to fit that description entirely (if it has somewhat of an electronica/dance sound to it, that's okay).

You definitely need to check out Jupiter Coyote. www.jupitercoyote.com

Especially their live stuff. They just released a new studio album/live DVD entitled "The Hillary Step." The DVD was recorded in 5.1 and is about 2 1/2 hours long. Sanders Brightwell plays the pure hell out of the bass. Let me know what you think when you hear it.

Check out Jeff Beck's Blow By Blow album. It's a great fusion of funk and rock, and he's a phenomenal guitar player.

Maybe a little obvious, but do not continue with life until you purchase this album:

Bela Fleck & the Flecktones. The bassist, Vic Wooten, is so good that he also plays shows by himself with just his bass and a drummer.

Great band...not the least bit "funk" though (IMO anyway).

i've always thought they had a funk-meets-rock-meets-blues sound going.

either way, they're freakin' awesome.

I saw them live last month, they definitly had a funkish quality.
