Has anyone heard Nellie McKay's album?
I saw her on Letterman a couple of weeks ago, and thought she was very odd. After listening to a piece on her this morning on NPR, I think she's even stranger, but very interesting. The snippets of music she played were all over the chart (from torch songs to rap). Anyone here given her a listen yet?

I heard it playing in a local bookstore and thought it sounded amazing. I ordered it from Best Buy, should be here today or tomorrow.
BTW, Best Buy has it for $8.99. Good price for a double disc.

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago after reading the write-up and review in Blender. I am still honestly on the fence about her. She definitely is all over the map, which keeps things interesting. While it's truly unique to hear torch songs about junkies and dead cats (which I admit made me smile), there are a lot of other experiments that her voice can't quite carry (for me at least) and win me over all the way. And with 18 tracks spread over two discs (they're not exceedingly long, this could have fit on one had they trimmed a track or two, I think), it seems a bit much. I don't feel like I wasted my 9 bucks, but it's not gonna be an album I play again and again. Give it a listen online or at an FYE.

I d/l a track or two the other day -- David and Toto's Dead -- and really enjoyed it so I think I might pick up this CD. Always up for something new.

She's good mainly because of her lyrics which range from deranged to really freaking weird.
The disc is only 30 mins on each one.
It could be on one disc and add more music.
Why she talked her record company into using 2 discs is beyond me.
Anyway, it has a cheap msrp right now, so pick it up if you like.
I call her "the thinking person's Norah Jones"

she is unique and interesting, but i dont love the songs. some stuff is funny and amusing, but it sorta seems noveltish. annoying, i bought the album used for 5 bucks. sadly, it was the edited version, which is annoying. but she doesnt cuss that much so its still ok.

I think Nellie is something special - I often don't like the critic's darlings but she blows me away.
I read somewhere she wanted the two CDs to be like two sides of a record - sort of having a break between both sides. Given that she is 19 - how does she know what a record is?

I just picked this cd up at work out of curiousity. I had heard nothing about it, but was drawn to the funny cover/title. Listened through the first disc so far, and I loved it. I can't wait to sit down and listen to the rest. Definitely a good impulse buy.

I picked it up this week, too. I agree a song or two could have been trimmed, but overall I like it. Been humming The Dog Song all day - and It's a Pose is fun as well (may have butchered those titles - but that's what I think they are offhand).

Ironically enough (seeing as how I started this thread who knows how long ago), I finally picked it up about a week ago. I find it very entertaining to listen to. I think it will be interesting to hear how she grows as an artist.
