Capitol will reissue 'Pink Floyd's The Final Cut' on April 20th

saw this mentioned over on www.musictap.net

not alot of info, but it sounds like a standard stereo reisssue(?) Oftenly referred as The Wall Part 2, I hope a hybrid SACD release of 'The Wall' is in the works.

I already own the 97 reissue, so unless this is a SACD I'm content with mine.

BTW, this is an excellent record. Way underrated imo, and has some really, really excellent tracks on it. Some people tend to write it off as one of their least compelling, but I believe it's one of their best.

Probably my favorite Pink Floyd album actually, and I lost my copy somewhere between college, law school and here. I'll pick it up again.

I kind of think of it as the first Roger Waters solo album. But it is still pretty good.

Correct.

Without a doubt some of Waters's finest writing...lyrically. Musically, he began to lose it with this album, and it's a shame.

I actually like it more than "The Wall", but just as much as Animals, Dark Side, etc.

I think it is quite moving, some of the lyrics are great, and the guitar and string work on it is amazing, shame most people hate it

Never did understand the negative views of this baby. It's a very good album.

Not a fan of Waters voice at all. I guess thats why I never really got into this album all that much.

So they are adding a completely unrelated song to a concept album just to sell more records I assume? Lame.

Speaking of reissues, is there a consensus on which versions of Floyd discs have the best sound? I have the Shine On box, DSotM SACD, and the rest are the original CD pressings. BTW, Floyd is my favorite band, so I would like to have the best audio versions available.

Thanks.

My favourite Floyd CDs are the original 1983/84 "black triangle" Toshiba/EMI discs. Some people like the out of print Mobile Fidelity gold CDs, and they (especially The Wall) usually command big bucks on ebay, but if you're looking for a flat transfer of the master tape, check out the ones with the following matrix numbers:

Meddle: CP32-5032
AHM: CP32-5274
Piper: CP32-5269
DSOTM: CP35-3017

the Mobile Fidelity CDs use the original master tapes, but they have a characteristic EQ that boosts the bass and top end. On DSOTM it's really noticable on Us & Them, it gets really bloated during the "forward, he cried!" sections.

I've not heard it myself, but the CBS Mastersound gold disc of Wish You Were Here seems to be pretty highly regarded. Unfortunately, it also usually sells for big bucks.
Some people on an audiophile message board I visit have said that the original Canadian CD of The Wall trounces the Mo-Fi.

Final Cut is a FANTASTIC album. My favorite PF album, with the possible exception of DSotM.

I can barely define the shape of this moment in time
And far from flying high in clear blue skies
I'm spiraling down to the hole in the ground where I hide
