Jupiter Coyote's new project is out!!!

Jupiter Coyote have finally released their new project, a new studio album entitled "The Hillary Step" and a full concert, almost 2 1/2 hours, recorded at the Windjammer on April 5, 2003. The DVD is of course in 5.1. Here is their press release, which does a much better job of explaining the project than I could. Everyone should at least visit their site and take a listen to their music.

Jupiter Coyote Set To Ascend New Musical Heights with “The Hillary Step”

Together for 13-plus years during which time they have released a handful of cricitally aclaimed albums and gained a reputation for delivering the goods on stage, Jupiter Coyote is poised to blaze new paths.

The five-piece Brevard, N.C.-based band’s eighth release, “The Hillary Step,” is an innovative two-CD set featuring a new studio album and a concert DVD recorded during a tour stop at The Windjammer in Charleston, S.C., last spring.

A consummate touring band, Jupiter Coyote has almost 3,000 shows under its collective belt and has independently sold nearly 200,000 discs. Their unique sound has been called “mountain rock” -- based on a hybrid style steeped in roots rock, bluegrass, funk and a healthy dose of country-infused jamming.

The two-and-a-half-hour DVD is mixed in 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound and was shot with six cameras that captured the hardworking band doing what it does best, playing on stage.

An impressive selection of new studio material showcases the songwriting partnership of Coyote co-founders Matthew Mayes and John Felty and the band’s layered harmonies. Drummer Noel Felty contributes three tracks on the disc. The endeavor, recorded at Headquarters Studios in James Island, S.C., highlights the crack producing/mixing skills of long-time Coyote engineer Lin Clegg who was instrumental in bringing the challenging project to fruition.

Tapping its voluminous catalog, the band included a rearrangement of its cult hit, “Crazy Women.” The fan-favorite-- bolstered by a muscular backbeat and a whole new groove -- is expected to garner serious radio attention.

The title concept derives from Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to summit Mount Everest. The final 200 feet of the menacing route between the south summit and the main summit, is known as “The Hillary Step” -- the point where mountineers either make it to the top, opt to go back down to safety or die in the process.

With CD burning and pirating at an all-time high, it is barely cost effective for many bands to make records these days, so this release represents the Hillary Step for Jupiter Coyotes. It’s a dynamic body of work and one the band hopes will take it to the top.

Jupiter Coyote will be on tour through June 5 and a handful of spring tour dates remain open. Summer dates will primarily be festivals and major market stops.

There is quite a buzz on the streets with the anticipation of this CD/DVD combo. Retail street date release is March 23, but it will available at shows and on the band’s Web site www.jupitercoyote.com in February.

Jupiter Coyote: there’s no stopping the interplanetary yard dog.
