I picked it up over my lunch break and I am now listening to "Hummingbird" and just laughing as I recall Tweedy singing it on Letterman recently - he looked so awkward and goofy.

Anyhow - I like it a lot so far, particularly "Company In My Back".

I just can't get into it. Granted, not liking a Wilco song still means it's better than most garbage by bands I like, but this one never grew on me. With all that said, in about 50 more listens the feelings might change. This album deserves every one of them.

I can't stop listening to this record.

As a long-time Sonic Youth fan, I'm right at home with the noisy, jam-y elements which seem to be the most common criticism. However, this was easily the "slowest burn" of all the Wilco albums for me.

I'm sorry but I hate this album. After Rolling Stone recommended it so highly I expected it to be SO much better. I should have learned not to listen to the crap they recommend after they recommended some British Hip-Hop but I mean, this album has songs with nothing but noise on them!

How can you defend a song like Less than you think, which has 7 minutes of amplifier feedback on it?

This album is the equivalent of an Andy Warhol film, Wilco is proving that people will buy ANYTHING.

Most of the commenters here don't like "Less Than You Think" (the only song that can be said to have amplifier feedback on it) but still think the rest of the album is pretty darn good.

I don't defend "Less Than You Think" (an instant fast-forward for me), but I appreciate the Tweedy's willingness to push its listeners and think that the album as a whole is at the same level as their previous work.

It's not for everyone, and that's OK.

But, hey, we agree that much of what's in Rolling Stone is crap.

Well some people are capable of appreciating "noise" tracks. I don't necessarily think that means they will buy anything.

I don't really enjoy the feedback portion of "Less than you think" but do enjoy noise tracks. The song itself is brilliant, as is most of the album. It is as good as anything they've ever made, but doesn't really grab you like YHF does. It's raw, edgy, and breathtakingly beautiful. All this praise is coming from someone who was unsure after a few listens.

I'm not the only one who feels this way. I recommended this album to someone experimental (musically) than myself, and they didn't like it. After about 6 listens, he actually called me to say "holy shit, you're right." I don't know how anyone can't appreciate at the bare minimum, At least that's what you said, spiders, wishful thinking, hummingbird, theologians, late greats, and the structured portion of less than you think.

Here's hoping that one day we get an outtakes compilation, and a 4-disc YHF sessions set, like the Pet Sounds one. At this point my life would be complete.

I ended up buying this CD after listening to the first two tracks, those two really grabbed me. I find the rest of the album to be a little uneven but it still one of the best I've heard lately. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to check out their previous work next.
