Doy. Forgot obvious rip offs:

"Come As You Are" by Nirvana is note for note, "Life Goes On" by the Damned (some say a Killing Joke song, but this one is way more obvious)

"Territorial Pissings" by Nirvana is note for note "The Power Of Lard" by Lard

There was a time in the 60's,70's,& 80's when R&B music was fresh & oringinal and was liked by both black & white music listeners.
I fail to see how this isn't the case in 2004?

Yes both black & white like today's R&B music, but mostly that's the youth who never heard the music of the past except thru samples.
Think of all the musical intruments out there to be heard and instead all we get are drum machines & old samples.

To quote Greil Marcus: "How much history can be communicated by pressure on a guitar string?" [...] "An infinite amount, or none at all."

Ignorant people think that hip-hop's popularity means kids don't know older "better" music = non-shocker of the millenium.

That one breaks my heart. I love Talk Talk. No Doubt didn't even do anything new with the song.
Two points before I comment:
1. I love a ton of 80's stuff. I was born in 74 so it's one of those "soundtrack of my life" kind of things.

2. I also love No Doubt.

That said, I heard ND's version first, then I heard the original one an 80's flashback on the radio, and was really underwhelmed by the original. It just kinda laid there and just existed. ND seemed to give it some sort of longing feeling that I just didn't get from the original.

Funny story, I also love classic rock, but my wife doesn't. I had it on the radio in the car recently and Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" came on. My wife asked who was covering the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
