What songs make you choke up/cry?
P!nk - Don't Let Me Get Me
Everclear - Wonderful Mariah Carey - Hero |
Wake Up in New York - Craig Armstrong
|
The Star Spangled Banner - Words by Francis Scott Key
das |
Don't Be Scared -- Andrew Bird (cover of the Handsome Family song)
Pass In Time -- Beth Orton |
Almost any song with vocals by Tracey Thorn (especially Massive Attack's "Protection") or Beth Orton (especially "Galaxy of Emptiness").
|
Silversprings by Fleetwood Mac. This song came on the radio as I was driving to a funeral and just made me cry like crazy. It's very hard to hear this song now.
|
Where Did You Sleep Last Night? by Nirvana gets me just about every time. The emotions in his voice are unbeleivable.
|
Sade "Pearls"
|
there are only three songs that might make me cry depending on when i hear them.
1. he was my brother - simon and garfunkel 2. helplessly hoping - csn (about a girl) 3. brokedown palace - grateful dead |
No songs just straight up make me cry, but depending on my mood and how well I'm currently relating to the subject matter, I might get a lil emotional haha. Well, I never actually cried, except maybe once at a live Tool show, but it gives you that feeling of wanting to cry kind of. Hard to explain. I've been going through some shit lately and have been listening to Pearl Jams Release, Black, indifference, immortality, nothingman, etc...
Specifically the version of Release from the MSG show last tour. Tool's Disposition/Reflection/Triad gets me too, as does Parable/Parabola, and Lateralus. |
As I just mentioned in another thread... I get all weepy when I hear "Viva Forever" by The Spice Girls. Another one is "Never Had A Dream Come True" by S Club 7.
Now, I know those coices seem awful. But it's not just the song (and they're not bad songs, really) - i's the context, the connotation... I heard the songs in 1998 and 2000 during visits home to Ireland, so they remind me of great times I had there and people I miss. |
Bob Dylan's "Standing in the Doorway" from Time Out of Mind - there is a moment in the song where he sings "there are things that I could say, but I don't" and the ache that accompanies "I don't" just tears my heart out..
that is the most immediate song that comes to mind... -di doctor- |
"Blowjob Betty"- Too Short. The part at the end where Betty chokes to death on baby batter gets me everytime.
|
Tori Amos - Cooling
Fiona Apple - I know Sarah Bettens - All of this Past |
Stink Foot - Frank Zappa (does crying from laughter count?)
|
Dubstar: b-side song "I Lost a Friend'
Feeder: "Just the Way I'm Feeling" Love in, love out, Find the feeling Scream in, Scream out, Time for healing You feel the moment's gone too soon, You're watching clouds come over you. Torn in two, You close your eyes for some place new, Torn in two And I feel it's going down, Ten feet below the ground, I'm waiting for your healing hand, One touch could bring me round I feel we're going down, Ten feet below the ground, It's just the way I'm feeling. Glow in, burn out, Lost the feeling Bruise in, you bruise out, Nurse the bleeding Torn in two, Each time we bruise And I feel it's going down, Ten feet below the ground, I'm waiting for your healing hand, One touch could bring me round I feel we're going down, Ten feet below the ground, It's just the way I'm feeling. Yeah yeah, it's just the way I'm feeling. Two different views, As words confuse and break I can't get out, There's no way out of here, I can't get clear. Love in, love out, Find the feeling. And I feel it's going down, Ten feet below the ground, I'm waiting for your healing hand, One touch could bring me round I feel we're going down, Ten feet below the ground, It's just the way I'm feeling. Yeah yeah, it's just the way I'm feeling. |
"If I was Indivisible" by Clay Aiken
|
Some older songs may choke me up a bit, but the most recent is "Hear You Me" by Jimmy Eat World.
|
I'd say "The Living Years" by Mike & the Mechanics, as cheesy as that is. Great song, and something that most of us will have to potentially experience one day. :(
|
|
toad, that's actually one of the older songs i was thinking of.
|
Go Rest High On That Mountain - Vince Gill
|
End of the Road - Boyz II Men
Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday - Boyz II Men The Living Years - Mike & the Mechanics Silver Springs - Fleetwood Mac |
The Luckiest - Ben Folds
Bullet in Your Hand - Emmet Swimming |
Ben Folds Five - Brick
Thursday - Steps Ascending |
When I was a kid this did:
Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin My child arrived just the other day, He came to the world in the usual way. But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay. He learned to walk while I was away. And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew, He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, dad. You know I'm gonna be like you." And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then. You know we'll have a good time then." My son turned ten just the other day. He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play. Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today, I got a lot to do." He said, "That's ok." And he walked away, but his smile never dimmmed, Said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah. You know I'm gonna be like him." And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then. You know we'll have a good time then." Well, he came from college just the other day, So much like a man I just had to say, "Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?" He shook his head, and he said with a smile, "What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys. See you later. Can I have them please?" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then, dad. You know we'll have a good time then." I've long since retired and my son's moved away. I called him up just the other day. I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind." He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time. You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu, But it's sure nice talking to you, dad. It's been sure nice talking to you." And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me, He'd grown up just like me. My boy was just like me. And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then, dad. You know we'll have a good time then. |

i'll second that, and add Pearl Jam's Black and Long Road, oh yeah, and Alice In Chain's Nutshell... Black always gets me at the end, during the "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life.." part.. especially live versions of the song... and well, just look at the lyrics for Long Road and its understandable.. and i wished for so long, cannot stay all the precious moments, cannot stay it's not like wings have fallen, cannot stay but still something's missing, i cannot say yeah holding hands are daughters and sons and their faiths are falling down down down down i have wished for so long how i wish for you today will i walk the long road the long road cannot stay the long road there's no need to say goodbye say goodbye all the friends and family all the memories going round round round i have wished for so long how i wish for you today and the wind keeps roarin' and the sky keeps turning grey and the sun is setting the sun will rise another day i have wished for so long how i wish for you today i have wished for so long how i wish for you today will i walk the long road we all walk the long road will i walk the long road we all walk the long road |
