Work of Director Spike Jonze DVD

I just picked this up yesterday, and, wow, what an excellent DVD. For $14.99 at Best Buy, the disc contains 16 music vids, quite a few 1/2 hour documentaries, commentaries, a 50+ page book with sketches and interviews and more. One of the better music DVD bargains I've ever seen.

For those who don't know, Jonze has directed some of the most ingenious videos ever shown...just a few on the disc...

Sabotage - Beastie Boys
Buddy Holly - Weezer
It's Oh So Quiet - Bjork
Weapon of Choice and Praise You - Fatboy Slim

Highly recommend the disc to any fan of mid-90's music...

It is great set.

Also take a look at the sets featuring the work of Michael Gondry and Chris Cunningham. Hopefully we'll see more of these in the future.

I just spent the better part of my sunday morning watching all three of the Work of...dvds. I think my favorite has to be Chris Cunnningham's DVD. His style is just so immaculate, clean, and scary, it's just a beauty to see these videos one right after another. Spike Jonze's dvd is also great, as I really love most of the bands he made a video for. The commentaries so far have been pretty good. I still haven't delved into the extras in any of the 3 sets, since I'm just hitting the back button to see the video again and again.
I really hope there are many more of these videos to come. The entire package is an exceptional presentation and they are pretty dirt cheap.

True.

The first one is unbelievably bad. It seems to be what all the music videos looked like back then. The music is pretty bad too.
The other one that I did see was ma maison, and again, nothing special.

I'm still looking at Cunningham's videos. What a great director.

Michel Gondry: The White Stripes, Kylie Minogue, The Chemical Brothers, Bjork, Beck, Foo Fighters, Daft Punk, Cibo Matto, The Rolling Stones, Massive Attack, Oui Oui

Chris Cunningham: Aphex Twin, Portishead, Madonna, Leftfield, Squrepusher, Bjork, Autechre

Out of the three discs, the Michel Gondry is my favorite. His is also a double-sided disc. The short films and documentaries on it are wonderful.

Yes... it may be a single sided less feature laden set in comparison to the Jonze,Gondry sets but has certainly become my favourite of the three.
On another note i have to say the 52 page books included in these sets are extremely impressive!..those with a liking for 'inserts' certainly can't complain about these.

Looking forward to further releases in the series..let's hope David Fincher, Mark Romanek aren't too far behind and here's hoping (on a personal level) that Anton Corbijn and Stephane Sednaoui get showcased.

Question about the Cunningham disc -

the menu has shots of a band playing (all dressed in black, looks like a studio) and a guitar player with a cat's head. What videos are these shots from?

It's from The Auteurs' "Light Aircraft on Fire".
