Rod Stewart Takes Swipe at McCartney, Sting, Elton

On Paul McCartney:
"What pisses me off is they never have a go at Paul McCartney for marrying a younger woman ... but they kill me because of Penny"

"Perhaps it's because he's got a knighthood. I don't know why I haven't got any honor. I do my bit for charity."
On Sting:
"Mr. Serious who helps the Indians"
On Elton John, who Rod calls "Sharon"
"My hair is nice and real and looks it, and hers doesn't. No, I take that back. He looks good at the moment, but he could lose a bit of timber."

I think perhaps that these comments should be read with a "wink and nod". The British like to "take the piss out" of each other. I laughed when I read them.

So far as I recall Rod's wives/partners have been "traded in" mercilessly while still living which might account for any comments as to age differences.

Funny thing is, I recall Elton John slagging off McCartney's lyrical/musical abilities at the time Paul got his knighthood: a few years down the line he got one for himself! So I suppose there is hope yet for the expat Scot!

One thing acting against Rod is that he doesn't seem to have UK residence: so far as I can tell he is a tax exile.

Although that doesn't preclude a knighthood his contribution to Britain would seem to be somewhat less than that of Paul McCartney or (the IMNSHO overrated) Elton John.

Like the person before me said, maybe if you didn't trade in your wives/girlfriends as soon as they reacehed the age of 30 or when they got their first wrinkle, then maybe people would cut you a little slack Rod.

I used to like Rod Stewart when he was still cool. But now he's turned into the Scottish Michael Bolton.

He's singing show tunes these days, people. I'd be dejected and bitter, too.

Just ignore the statements and pity the man.

He's been pissing on Elton for decades. Well not literally. At least I don't think.

That is funny. We all know what a great lyricist Elton is.

I'm missing this-maybe-because I am not sure ... but is that because Bernie Taupin (sp?) wrote all of the lyrics? Except Elton's 15 versions of Candle In The Wind.

I think this is funny, and I doubt anyone mentioned, well Sting perhaps, will get offended.

I thought it was a joke - since I thought Taupin did it - I just wanted to make sure I got it.
