BBC finds lost Beatles performances
Over 50 hours of classic BBC radio shows that were assumed lost forever have been recovered from recordings made by listeners and will be aired again for the first time in over 40 years. Included in the programming is a 1963 live performance by the BEATLES as well as a missing 1975 episode of still-running soap "THE ARCHERS" and an entire KENNETH WILLIAMS comedy series.
A concert by the ROLLING STONES and a comedy show featuring MONTY PYTHON's ERIC IDLE were also found. A special with clips from the tapes, "RADIO'S LOST PROPERTY," is scheduled for NOVEMBER 1 on RADIO 1. Much of the BBC's pre-70's output, especially from television, was destroyed in order to reuse the tapes in the early 70's, and an effort to recover as much as possible has retrieved some of the missing material.
