QOTD: Inspired by my non-remastered (aka, OLD) version of "Anodyne", what albums would you most like to see receive the remastered/expanded treatment? The remastering aspect doesn't really add much value to me, but the expanded aspect (additional tracks, contextual liner notes that congratulate me on recognizing the value of the album ) does. I'd nominate U2's pre-"Rattle & Hum" CDs and R.E.M.'s I.R.S. albums (though I have European versions which are sort of expanded).

Alternately, what are your favorite remastered/expanded releases?

AOTD: The Stones and Dylan remasters have been a huge improvement over their predecessors, and the Elvis Costello reissues/remasters have been setting a new benchmark for repackaged albums. I keep my fingers crossed for I.R.S.-era R.E.M. reissues...and Smiths remasters/reissues (repackage! repackage!)...and perhaps an expanded edition of VU's third album?

I should have Meadowlands in the next day or so, and the new B&S in the next week.

Have you heard the new Decemberists? Or the 5 Song EP, for that matter? I like both better than C&C, but I might be in the minority on that one.

AoTD: Same on the REM records, especially Murmur. I'm not sure if Public Image Ltd. have any remastered releases, but I'd be glad to find some. I'd also like to see some more stuff from the No Wave scene re-issued. I know James Chance, Rhys Chatham (if he had anything to re-issue in the first place?) and Glenn Branca have gotten the treatment, as well as Liquid Liquid and ESG, but I haven't seen or heard much.

How do you guys feel about the Sundazed re-issues on vinyl? I've heard that some don't regard it very highly, but I think that if there is a market for it (there is), then more power to them. I'm salivating over some of these...The Meters, Bob Dylan, Otis Redding - it goes on.

Q of the D: Neil Young's "Time Fades Away" - why "Re-ac-tor" was reissued but not this is beyond me.

I actually worked my way backwards with the Decemberists. I picked up "Her Majesty" after reading rave reviews and constant Neutral Milk Hotel comparisons, and I picked up the first album and EP shortly after. I must say that I do enjoy the new one more than the first...seems more focused and cohesive; though, that's not to say the first one is bad, but they totally topped themselves with the new one. All around, it's very good stuff!

Today was just about the Handsome Family's new album, Singing Bones. Those of you who share my tastes in music (I've noticed there are several of you) are really missing out if you pass this one up. It's a great folk/Americana album.

very little, listened to the Coral single "Pass it On" on my way to and from the Safeway... a rather lazy Monday just doiing chores and watching movies on DVD.

I'm actually not a big reissue fan. There are albums I wish were in print, but the reissue treatment doesn't really add all that much to the listening experience for me. BUT, if I had to pick one, I'd take Flaming Groovies' Shake Some Action, the best worst sounding album ever.

Oh, and 90 Day Men fans: The tour has been canceled cuz a bandmember has been hospitalized. Very disappointing.
