I saw the show on Sunday too, I was a bit aphrehensive since I've heard they can be rather aloof on stage, but everyone especially Julian (lead singer) and Albert (lead guitarist) where ripping it up on stage. their new cd is great and all the new songs went over very well.

Did you guys get early copies, or are you judging it from the songs you heard live? This is probably one of only 2 CDs coming out in the next couple months that I'm greatly anticipating. I saw them a couple weeks ago and some of the songs I recognized from the last two times I saw them. The newer ones were all good too, especially "Reptilia". They are definitely one of my favorite bands to see live. Hopefully the new album will get as many spins as their first one did. BTW, I consider the UK version their proper debut. "New York City Cops" is my second favorite song on the album, next to "Trying Your Luck".

I was walking up Broadway (in Chicago) a few weeks ago and saw two guys putting up concert posters -- one of them was for the Strokes and I was able to snag one.

I have heard the entire album, although the way they played the new songs live was pretty much exactly like the finished tracks. There isn't one song on Room on Fire that's skippable IMO.

Heard the new song last week on the radio when I was in England, sounds really good. And since it was England, where radio has a much more open playlist, it was on a top 40 station.

Hey meatpants, did you ever buy Strokes tix? I ran into the same problem you did... I really want to see them here in Atlanta in a couple of weeks, but when I went to the box office window (Tabernacle) the guy said I'd have to buy them from Ticketmaster.
I am so adamant against giving Ticketmaster one freakin' penny so I might skip the concert. I get pretty ticked off just thinking about that company.

Anyway, what a GREAT band the Strokes are.

My experiences with Ticketmaster are almost comical at this point.

The Strokes were going to play at UIC, which is way too hard for me to get to. But I wanted to go, and I was able to get good seats, so I was forced to go through TM, and got charged $18.72 in fees for two $25 tickets.

A week later, they announced the show was moving to the Aragon, which is all general admission. One of the MAIN reasons I picked up the tickets was I wanted SEATS, not a spot in the back of a ballroom.

You'd think with all the fees they collect, TM would be pretty on the ball with returns/refunds. However, if I wanted a refund on these tickets, I had to MAIL them to their office in California, and pray they got there and were processed before the show date, which was a week away. It's almost inconceivable that with all the money they make, they can't figure out a way for me to return tickets to any of their outlets. Oh, and IF my tickets weren't lost in the mail, and IF they got to it before the show date, I'd be refunded the face value of my tickets, but NOT the $18.72 in service charges.

To add insult to injury, two days before the show TM sent me a friendly reminder that I had tickets to The Strokes show at UIC, complete with a map and directions. Gee, thanks, way to keep up there TM.

It's one thing to have a monopoly, it's quite another to be a monopoly that provides poor service. Microsoft is evil, but at least they have a good product. TM sucks.

Good god Meatpants. I am one of the most level-headed, non-angry people you will ever meet. But I felt my blood boiling reading your account of having to return tix. Dammit, I don't understand and haven't for a decade how Ticketmaster gets away with it. POS organization.

I've got the actual album it's good.

Once again, there's good songs, some nice guitar work and it's too short.

I want more. 11 tracks at 30-something minutes.

Track 3 - Reptile is my favorite. Great track.
buy Kings of Leon's album - also good - plus they're opening
for The Strokes.

Short is good. I would much rather a great short album than a long lumbering skip-certain-tracks album.

When is the release date on this?

Went to the Strokes concert last night in Seattle, and they flat out rocked. Julian was awesome, he jumped into the crowd during 12:51 and they mobbed him, and his between song comments are pretty funny. Only complaint was that the show was way too short. Their actual stage time was only about an hour, and they don't do encores. Here's what I can remember them playing (not in order):

Under Control
Alone, Together
12:51
Last Nite
Soma
Modern Age
Reptilia
What Ever Happened
Automatic Stop
Between Love and Hate
The End Has No End
I Can't Win
Someday
New York City Cops
Take It Or Leave It

I look for good cds too, and unfortunatly the Strokes have never made one.

Hi Yancey.... good review. As a music lover, I have long ago stopped caring about much beyond the actual CD in my hand and how it sounds on my stereo. I am in love with the Strokes. Great music like this is just timeless and I am thrilled these guys are around. Hope I get to catch 'em live soon.

I've been using Rhapsody and they have the new album, so I'll probably stream it later today. I liked their last album, and I like the new single off this album.

I listened to it once yesterday. I liked it. It seemed a little peppier/poppier than their last album (which I like).
