This is Collection I, I like this one slightly better than Collection II, but both are awesome. I would recommend getting II if you like the first one, actually I would recommend both of them.

This is Collection II

Overall, I guess I prefer the old California punk (at least that's what I call it) from the late 70's/early 80's (my High School years) like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, Fear, X. That's probably my favorite music.

I like a lot of New York bands (Talking Heads, Blondie, Ramones, New York Dolls) from around then too, but most of those (other than the Ramones and maybe New York Dolls or at least Johnny Thunders) don't seem to me to be punk, even if they sometimes get classified that way.

I also like the Sex Pistols (yeah, I know, they suck, but I like em), the Clash is ok. My favorite group is probably the Fall, but I don't really know if they are "punk" or not--they sure are pissed, though.

Good thread, guys. Most of the bands that I grew up listening to have been listed: Misfits, Social D, DK, Bad Religion, Clash, etc.

I find the most of the current punk bands pretty weak, but it is cool when an older band gets out and does a tour. I saw the Damned and the Angry Samoans last summer, and it felt like I was 15 again. I used to go to shows every weekend, but as I get older, I find myself going out less.

Anyway, here are some local punk bands that I find are pretty fun:

The Gloryholes

Cookie

Geeez...I forgot all about them...my buddy was good friends with them when I was living in Boston. They used to trash all of theor rental equipment that it was hard to find a place that would lend it out.

What about Bowling For Soup? They even wrote a song about Punk. It's called "Punkrock 101":

She works at Hot Topic
His heart microscopic
She thinks that its love but to him its sex
He listens to emo but Fat Mike's his hero
His bank account's zero
What comes next?

Same song different chorus
It's stupid, contagious
To be broke and famous
Can someone please save us from punkrock 101
My Dickies your sweatbands
My spiked hair, your new Vans
Let's throw up our rock hands for punkrock 101

She bought him a skateboard, a rail slide, his knee tore
He traded it for drums at the local pawn shop
She left him for staring at girls and not caring
When she cried because she thought Bon Jovi broke up

Same song second chorus
It's stupid, contagious
To be broke and famous
Can someone please save us from punkrock 101
My Dickies your sweatbands
My spiked hair, your new Vans
Let's throw up our rock hands for punkrock 101

Don't forget to delay...on the very last word

Seven years later he works as a waiter
She married a trucker and he's never there
The story never changes, just the names and faces
Like Tommy and Gina they're living on a prayer

(Did you just say that?)
I just said

It's stupid, contagious (same song different chorus)
To be broke and famous (same song different chorus)
Can someone please save us from punkrock 101
My Dickies your sweatbands
My spiked hair, your new Vans
Let's shoplift some sweatbands for punkrock 101

:D

I used to go to CBGB's (and other NYC clubs) back in the mid-late 70's when you could see Patty Smith or Debby Harry hangin at the bar.

Groups I saw live then include:

Patty Smith
Ramones
Dead Boys w/ Stiv Bators
Richard Hell and the Void Oids
Dictators (we used to call them the dick takers, but I don't remember why)
Talking Heads
Clash
Television

and probably some others I'm forgetting.

There are some great tracks on that album but, without doubt, everyone should listen to the above selection!
