Robert Randolph and the Family Band- opinions?
Anyone in the know care to opine on Robert Randolph?
Caught this group on Letterman earlier this week and was blown away. A fluid blend of soul, funk, rock, the blues, and gospel, melded with a jam band sensibility.
Apparently they have a new album out in stores this week, and I'm wondering (for those who caught it) if the Letterman performance is representative of their music in general?

Yes, the Letterman performance is a good representation of almost all of their music. I owe "Live at the Wetlands" by them and it's really good. About 8 songs. 70 minutes. They jam out songs. The songs don't usually go anywhere new like Phish or anything but they are enjoyable. I'm sure they are amazing live. On record, they aren't quite as captiviating I'd believe.
I'm seeing them on the Sprite Liquid Mix tour. Check it out! $10 gets you pavillion or lawn. The lineup is impressive. Robert Randolph, O.A.R., The Roots, Talib Kweli, and N.E.R.D. Amazing way to spend a little cash.

RR&TFB are awesome! Who cares whether he was the first to play pedal steel (not guitar) or not, the music is what counts. For those who are interested in the live shows, which is where the really good music is, check this site out for 42 concerts in shn format.
