are you looking for rock/metal type stuff?
Human Waste Project is pretty good. They put out one disc called "E-Lux". They broke up and their singer (Aimee Echo) started a new band called The Start. They don't sound anything like HWP.
Also, if you are looking for metal, Kittie has put out a few good CDS.

I'll second Lacuna Coil and add...
Within Temptation with my favorite album being 'Mother Earth'
After Forever and 'Prison of Desire'
The Gathering either 'Nighttime Birds' or 'Mandylion'

Lacuna Coil and The Gathering come to mind.
You also might want to check out Tristania's album "World of Glass." Be warned, though, that it still utilises a lot of male vocals as well.

Ambeon. It is mellow-er but it still rocks. Arjen Luccassen(Ayreon, Star One) does the music, while Astrid Van DerVeen sings.

Another strong vote for Lacuna Coil. Excellent band. All (all 4) of their cd's are well worth a purchase.
Also check out Tristania (especially World of Glass and Beyond the Veil) and the first three Theatre of Tragedy albums (Theatre of Tragedy, Velvet Darkness they Fear, and Aegis).

Nightwish is one of my favorites.
As mentioned above, Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation are terrific.
More commercial band w/ female vocals in that same vein is Evanescence. A great CD!
