Favorite Acapella Groups?
Hey All,
I've always been a fan of acapella, and was wondering what everyone's favorite groups are. I originally started listening to acapella through hearing college groups....which is why I listen to mostly college groups.
So...what does everyone listen to?
btw...are the Best of College Acapella CD's worth getting? If so...where can I get them on sale?

ps. One of my favorite groups is The Duke's Men of Yale. Saw them perform back in '98-'99 and was really impressed, so I picked up one of their discs. ("45")

The Bobs are much, much fun. Lots of humor and an edge you don't hear in most acapella groups. If you ever get a chanse to see the Lonesome Pine special they did with the dance troup Iso, do. They do Hendrix, Tom Waits, lots of original stuff.

Try Schrodinger's Cat (from Austin) - they've got a pretty original sound - check out their version of "In Your Eyes"

There was a group called The Flying Pickets that did a marvelous cover of Yazoo's "Only You". It's featured in the Fallen Angels soundtrack. I've never heard them do anything else.
About 15 years ago Todd Rundgren did an album called "a capella", where every sound on the album came from the human body. It was very, very weird.

I guess they've broken up since they haven't released an album in years. But they were the best R&B acapella group at one time.

I seen a group called Acappella live before, and they were amazing. I've got a few of their CDs as well. When I saw them live, they actually sang the "THX - The Audience is Listening" clip. It was so crazy because it sounded like a perfect replica.

Also the Brown Derbies cover of 'Crash' by DMB is excellent.

I have to give a plug for University of Richmond's Octaves. I assume they are still around. And as much as I hate the school, UVA's Virginia Gentlement are quite good (at least they were in my time).
And, this has probably been mentioned somewhere here, but of interest to some of the people here would be Emocapella. That's right, a bunch of guys from American University that do acapella versions of emo songs.

Re: Favorite Acapella Groups?
Someone recently told me about a group from Indiana University called Straight No Chaser. Apparently they just signed a five record deal with a major label.
