The Dead - Bonnaroo

I downloaded this concert a couple weeks ago, I would say where but Benedict would lock the thread so I can't. Anyway, if you can figure out how to get your hands on this, it is really great. It's TOTALLY legal and actually supported by the band. From what I've heard, all the shows so far have been amazing. Sure there are nay sayers who believe they are doing it just for the money, but personally, I'm a fan of the music, and the music sounds GREAT!!

I made this cover art for the show:

oh yeah, I think Joan Osbourne is my new favorite member.

Did anyone see "Casey Jones" on Letterman?

If it is legal then isn't it allowed?

That's what I thought as well. Benedict and I went back and forth on this about a year ago. I thought he decided to allow discussion of downloaded concerts, etc. as long as the poster could prove that the band permitted taping. For instance, I posted the link to a moe. show on the site once and just copied their taping policy from their website into my post.

It's pretty common knowledge that the Grateful Dead (and now the Dead) allow taping at their shows. You should be fine posting the link.

By the way, Bust, when did you move to Monroeville? How are you digging the Pittsburgh area? I was born and raised really close to where you're living...I've only lived in Vegas for about 3 years. I miss it sometimes.

Not allowing the link to be posted for the downloads of a band that not only allows recording but encourages it is L-A-M-E to the extreme. This goes directly against the band's wishes, which is to share the music with the community, freely.

BTW, is that a little edge enhancement in your photos on the back?

For Benedict's (and everybody elses) benefit:

RE: OUR LONG STANDING POLICY REGARDING TAPE TRADING

Dear Dead Heads,

We have a simple taping policy. It's okay with us to tape live Grateful Dead performances and trade them freely, so long as no money changes hands. You send 'em a blank, they make you a tape, and vise-versa. As soon as money enters in on any level, it's a commercial transaction; and with our music, decisions on
commerce are ours and ours alone.

Thank you,

Grateful Dead

Message from Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. // Ice Nine

STATEMENT TO MP3 SITE OPERATORS:

The Grateful Dead and our managing organizations have long encouraged the purely non-commercial exchange of music taped at our concerts and those of our individual members. That a new medium of distribution has arisen - digital audio files being traded over the Internet - does not change our policy in this regard.

Our stipulations regarding digital distribution are merely extensions of those long-standing principles and they are as follows:

No commercial gain may be sought by websites offering digital files of our music, whether through advertising, exploiting databases compiled from their traffic, or any other means.

All participants in such digital exchange acknowledge and respect the copyrights of the performers, writers and publishers of the music.

This notice should be clearly posted on all sites engaged in this activity.

We reserve the ability to withdraw our sanction of non-commercial digital music should circumstances arise that compromise our ability to protect and steward the integrity of our work.

Well, I believe the problem is the site I use to get my shows. It's basically a forum for traders and Benedict doesn't believe that it is completely legitimate. It's really his call, but fortunately for you guys, I've found this page which has the entire show (from what I've heard is a better source than the one I downloaded) for HTTP download. I don't know what kind of speeds they have and you might only be able to download a couple of files at a time, but it's there if you want it.

The cover art I made doesn't match up with the track listing for this source, but if anyone wants to use it, I can make the few changes with little to no effort.

I just moved (back) to Monroeville at the end of May. I lived here from June 2000-September 2001. I have to say, Pittsburgh is pretty rough around the edges. The "Pittsburghese" dialect REALLY gets on my nerves sometimes. It just sounds SO unintelligent. Oh well. I won't be here forever, just trying to dig myself back out of the hole.

Pittsburgh is rough around the edges...sometimes it's charming...sometimes it's not. Pittsburghese is extremely irritating though. I've spent the better part of my life making sure that I didn't talk like a Pittsburgher. A few phrases have burrowed into my brain (the worst...gumband. No one outside of the Burgh ever has any idea what the hell I'm talking about). I do miss the city sometimes, but I doubt I'll ever live there again.

Not to mention people IN Pittsburgh have no idea what a "rubber band" is. The ones that really irritate me though are:

"yuns"
"n'at"

And the people here seem to be PROUD that they sound like retards.

My mom's best friend literally says "n'at" at the end of every single sentence. It's as hilarious as it is irritating.

Actually, wait, no it's not. It's much more irritating.

Yeah, I don't really do the download music thing, so I don't even really know what the differences are. I just use nugs.net mostly for streaming audio...
