Anyone know of a site that describes where all the money in the cd price goes? For example, out of the $18.99 msrp, what percentage goes to the artist, what percentage goes to manufacturing, etc.

I got my check back today!! A wopping $13.86!! It came with a form letter from my states (Virginia) Attorney General, Jerry W. Kilgore. How nice.
I wonder how big the lawyers (who filed this class action suit) check is? I bet it's a lot more than $13.86, that's for sure. Oh well, I'll happily take mine, and go get some more CD-R's.

where he determines the lawyers and admin fees got 35%, or about $23,375,000.
Here's a link to CNN graphic showing breakdown of a CD cost.

That chart can not be right. The record company only makes $0.59, while the artist make $1.99 and retail markup is $6. This all seems backwards to me, the record company might make $6, while retail gets $2 and the artist gets $0.59.

It may have been based on British sales/markets/companies, with the conversion to dollars for convenience of worldwide readers. It was the first thing I found, and I didn't have a lot of time to search.

Got mine. Went towards Pearl Jam's Lost Dogs on vinyl. Or the book I bought. I'm going to officially say the book so that I don't give it back to the record companies.

Getting a game maybe?
Well I think I'll use some of that store credit I have a GameStop with their $13 and pick up a "Greatest Hits" game. That way I can get a good 25-30 hours of entertainment rather than 45 minutes (maybe about 8 or 9 minutes once you factor out the "throw away" tracks). And if you add in online play my entertainment value goes up exponentially!!
