They were going to re-release the Westway to the World with the videos on it, but at the last minue decided not to screw fans who already owned Westway. I just wish this had the same title as the laserdisc, "This Is Video Clash" is so much better than "Essential Clash."

No prob
. I didn't actually know about it until I saw a mini-review of the DVD in my copy of Blender yesterday. Like everyone else I was preparing to buy the special edition of Westway to the World.
I am just glad to finally be able to watch all the videos

Looks like This is Video Clash on DVD except with Career Opportunities (live) added and Hell W10. Is Radio Clash live or not. Radio Clash is not live on This is Video Clash.
VHS cover:

VCD Cover:

BTW, this is still available in VHS and VCD already. Didn't know there was a laserdisc.

Can someone tell me what this "Westway to the World " is and on what format it's on? How is it different from the "Essential Clash"?
Also, did anyone see the documentary that aired on VH1 sometime back? It wasn't your typical "Behind the Music" doc...this one was line an hour and a half-two hours long and really dug deep into the band from the beginning to the end. Can anyone please tell the name of that VH1 special and is it available anywhere?

Westway to the World is a docu on the Clash. on DVD. it might have been what you saw on VH-1, although if it was, it was undoubtably edited. great docu overall!

Looks like we are going to have to wait one more week for this one
.
Every site except for DVDEmpire is listing it as a 6/17 release, so I guess it was pushed back...

Just got it today and put it in, and so far it is a winner
!
If you enjoy the Clash this one is a no brainer, if you can find it tomorrow (6/17) you should definitely look into purchasing it.

If anyone finds it at a B&M please post where and the price.

My best buy had it for 9.99 as did another local retailer.
For 10 bucks it's a must own for Clash fans, but unless your a big Clash fan it's not worth getting. There really isn't much on the DVD, but the performance at Shey stadium maked the DVD worth it. I think people forget just how popular the Clash are.

Yeah, a lot of the footage from Westway To the World is recycled into the music videos (or is it the other way around?) because Don Letts filmed all of their videos and the WTTW. Either way, some of the tracks like the performance of "Should I Stay Or Should I Go Now?" at Shea Stadium, or their only real video "Rock The Casbah" make this an essential to a big clash fan.

Picture is almost perfect (considering the source) with almost no imperfections. The sound is DD 2.0 and 5.1. I don't have a home theatre, so I couldn't check out 5.1; 2.0 is really good.
If you are a Clash fan, pick this one up

Has anyone seen it at Best Buy? I've been to three of them and had no luck.
Sessa17 said they had it for 9.99 at his store and the website shows it at 14.99.

It's astounding to me that the Clash was probably the greatest live punk band EVER and no one ever thought to videotape or film one of their concerts. I guess the same is true for lots of bands.
