Here's the album version:

Deep in the bosom of the gentle night,
Is where I search for the light,
Pick up my pen and start to write,
I struggle a fight,
Dark forces in the clear moonlight without fear,
Insomnia.

I can't get no sleep.

I used to worry,
Thought I was going mad in a hurry,
Getting stressed, making excess
mess in darkness. No electricity,
Something's all over me, greasy.
Insomnia please release me,
And let me dream of making mad love to my girl on the heath,
Tearing off tights with my teeth.
But there's no release, no peace,
I toss and turn without cease.
Like a curse,
I open my eyes and rise like yeast.

At least,
A couple of weeks since I last slept.
Kept taking sleepers,
But now I keep myself pepped
Deeper still,
The night, I write by candle light,
I find in sight
Fundamental movement.

So when it's black
This insomniac
Take an original tack
Keep the beast in my nature under ceaseless attack.
I gets no sleep.

I can't get no sleep.

You ain't a beauty, but hey you're alright

Sometimes ghosts are real and life is hard
We live and learn to love
The difference between right and wrong
Might never be enough
And if it seems like life's a game
And no one knows the rules
Just do the things that come to you
And you'll always be true

Burn out the day
Burn out the night
I can't see no reason to put up a fight
I'm living for giving the devil his due

And I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm burning for you
I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm burning for you

There was a certain face that filled a thousand nights
With all the sweteest dreams and promises of paradise
But that face was gone when the dawn would come and steal you
Yet I still could feel you, waiting just a kiss away
I'd surely know your face, when love would cast its spell
I'd recognize each curve and line of you, I knew it well
Now at last you're here and I can tell
Something in your eyes, I see, is all I've ever wanted
Something in your smile for me is calling out my name
Your eyes, it seems, are mirrors of my dreams
In ways I can't explain, and my heart will never be the same

We've never said a word, as if we'd always know
That though the bittersweet of waiting we were not alone
Now we're close enough for the touch of love to find us
Fantasies design us, but they never really could ..
.. begin to measure you, no pictures ever do
And as I watch you frammed in sunlight and the sky of blue
I know what my life's been leading to
Something in your eyes, I see, is all I've ever wanted
And something in your smile for me is calling out my name
Your eyes, it seems, are mirrors of my dreams
In ways I can't explain, and my heart will never be the same

Manic Street Preachers, practically any lyric, esp the one in my sig.

I write this alone on my bed
I've poisoned every room in the house
The place is quiet and so alone
Pretend there's something worth waiting for

There's nothing nice in my head
The adult world took it all away
I wake up with same spit in my mouth
I cannot tell if it is real or not

I try and walk in a straight line
An imitation of dignity
From despair to where
From despair to where

Outside open mouthed crowds
Pass each other as if they're drugged
Down pale corridors of routine
Where life falls unatoned

The weak kick like straw
Till the world means less and less
Words are never enough
Just cheap tarnished glitter

I try and walk in a straight line
An imitation of dignity
From despair to where
From despair to where

A cripple walks in a straight line
An imitation of dignity
From despair to where
From despair to where

Quote: Soilwork: Song Of The Damned

So why are we trusting those cynical souls
Bleeding, aching, bleeding, aching-bleeding
with hearts open wide all so cold
Live for the moment get killed for the thrill
Bleeding, aching, bleeding, aching bleeding for nothing
for we've seen it all

From the Old 97's (again)...

Talkin' to you girl is like long division.

I've been trying to find you/May I remind you/I'm under oath now/I've been trying to see you/'Cause I can see you want the truth now/I've been trying to tell you that I can tell you are a singular girl...

You are the reason/You're my because

A few more Old 97's lyrics (Rhett Miller's my favorite lyricist)...

Designs on You
Standing on the corner of Sixth and how to forget/Been tryin' to do right by you all night Annette/You can go ahead and get married/And this'll be our secret thing/I won't tell a soul except the people in the nightclub where I sing/I don't mean to get you excited/Except secretly I do/I'd be lying if I said I didn't have designs on you
Rollerskate Skinny
Love feels good when it sits right down/Puts its feet up on the table and it sends a bowl around/Ain't nobody gonna see eye to eye/With a girl who's only gonna stand collerbone high
Wish the Worst
I hope you crash your mama's car/I hope you pass out in some bar/I hope you catch some kinda flu/Let's say I wish the worst for you
Timebomb
I got a timebomb in my mind mom/I got it badly for a stick legged girl
Nightclub
This old nightclub/Stole my true love/This old nightclub/Stole my youth/This old nightclub/Stole my true love/It follows me around from town to town/But I just might get drunk tonight/And burn this nightclub down
Big Brown Eyes
A box of red/And a pill or three/And I'm calling time and temperature/Just for some company
Victoria
This is the story of Victoria Lee/Started off on Percodan/And ended up with me

Wendersfan - "Jungleland" AWESOME song. Bruce wrote with so much imagery, you could SEE his music. Dylan was a poet, but Springsteen is by far the best storyteller around.

Wendersfan - this is for you buddy!

Jungleland -
Bruce Springsteen, From the 1975 album "Born to Run"

" The Rangers had a homecoming
In Harlem late last night
And the Magic Rat drove his sleek machine
Over the Jersey state line
Barefoot girl sitting on the hood of a Dodge
Drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain
The Rat pulls into town, rolls up his pants
Together they take a stab at romance
And disappear down Flamingo Lane

Well the Maximum Lawmen run down Flamingo
Chasing the Rat and the barefoot girl
And the kids 'round there live just like shadows
Always quiet, holding hands
From the churches to the jails
Tonight all is silence in the world
As we take our stand
Down in Jungleland

The midnight gang's assembled
And picked a rendezvous for the night
They'll meet 'neath that giant Exxon sign
That brings this fair city light
Man there's an opera out on the turnpike
There's a ballet being fought out in the alley
Until the local cops
Cherry tops
Rips this holy night
The street's alive
As secret debts are paid
Contacts made, they vanish unseen
Kids flash guitars just like switchblades
Hustling for the record machine
The hungry and the hunted
Explode into rock and roll bands
That face off against each other in the street
Down in Jungleland

In the parking lot the visionaries
Dress in the latest rage
Inside the backstreet girls are dancing
To the records that the DJ plays
Lonely-hearted lovers
Struggle in dark corners
Desperate as the night moves on
Just one look and a whisper
And they're gone
Beneath the city two hearts beat
Soul engines running through a night so tender
In a bedroom locked
In whispers of soft refusal
And then surrender
In the tunnels uptown
The Rat's own dream guns him down
As shots echo down them hallways in the night
No one watches when the ambulance pulls away
Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light

Outside the street's on fire
In a real death waltz
Between what's flesh and what's fantasy
And the poets down here
Don't write nothing at all
They just stand back and let it all be
And in the quick of a knife
They reach for their moment
And try to make an honest stand
But they wind up wounded
Not even dead
Tonight in Jungleland"

this song has INCREDIBLE music arrangement - piano, horns, guitar. WOW. What a masterpiece of music.

We all want to hold in the everlasting gaze
Enchanted in the rapture of his sentimental sway
But underneath the wheels lie the skulls of every c.o.g.
The fickle fascination of an everlasting god
You know I'm not dead

Smashing Pumpkins - Everlasting Gaze
Great song.

From the corner of my eye I saw the sun explode
I didn't look directly 'cause it would have burned my soul
When the smoke and thunder cleared enough to look around
I heard a sweet guitar lick, an odd familiar sound
I heard a laugh I recognized come rolling from the earth.
Saw it rise into the skies like lightning giving birth
It sounded like Garcia, but I couldn't see the face
Just the beard and the glasses and a smile on empty space

Down the road again...

From the mountain valley to the deep blue sea
The word is heard as told by D.
I don't sing - I bring much delight,
Like a star shining bright in the darkest night.
If you are cold, I'll bring you heat
Like I brought the whole world my funky beat.
Mysterious and serious, I ain't no joke -
FIRE FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL
AND YOU CAN SMELL THE SMOKE!

A rare double shot from Bust... I've been listening to Negotiations And Love Songs like it's going out of style...

Written by Paul Simon
Then I learned to play some lead guitar
I was underage in this funky bar
And I stepped outside to smoke myself a “J”
And when I came back to the room
Everybody just seemed to move
And I turned my amp up loud and began to play
And it was late in the evening
And I blew that room away!

-- "Late In The Evening"
Written by Paul Simon
I know a man
He came from my home town
He wore his passion for his woman
Like a thorny crown
He said Delores
I live in fear
My love for you’s so overpowering
I’m afraid that I will disappear

"I hear you breathin' but your heart no longer sounds strong
But you kinda scared of dying so you hold on
And you keep on blacking out cuz the post is near
Stop trying to fight the reaper just relax and let it go
Because there's no way you can fight it but you'll still try
And you can try it til you fight it but you'll still die
Now your spirit leaves your body and your mind clears
The rigormortis starts to set, now you outta here
You start your journey into outer space
You see yourself in the light but you're still feeling outta place
So you standing in the tunnel of eternal light,
And you see the ones you never learn to love in life
Make the choice let it go but u can back it up
If you ain't at peace with God you need to patch it up
But if you ready close your eyes and we can set it free
There lies a man not scared to die, may he rest in peace"

Father can you hear me?
How have I let you down?
I curse the day that I was born
and all the sorrow in this world

Let me take you to the herding ground
where all good men are trampled down
Just to settle a bet that could not be won
between a brightful father and his son

Will you guide me now for I can't see a reason
for the suffering and this long misery
What if every living soul could be upright and strong?
Well then I do imagine

There will be (sorrow)
Yeah there will be (sorrow)
And there will be sorrow no more

When all soldiers lay their weapons down
or when all kings and all queens relinquish their crowns
Or when the only true messiah rescues us
from ourselves it's easy to imagine

There will be (sorrow)
Yeah there will be (sorrow)
And there will be sorrow no more

There will be (sorrow)
Yeah there will be (sorrow)
And there will be sorrow no more

Yeah there will be (sorrow)
Yeah there will be (sorrow)
And there will be sorrow no more
