Wow.

No mention of Sade? Blasphemy.

Some more [off the top of my head]:

• Tony Toni Toné -- Anniversary
• Boyz II Men -- Please Don't Go, This Is My Heart, 4 Seasons Of Loneliness
• Christion -- Soon
• Whitney [Pre "Crack Is Whack"] Houston -- You Give Good Love, If You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful [w/ Jermaine Jackson], Hold Me [w/ Teddy Pendergrass]
• Janet -- Funny How Time Flies [When You're Having Fun], the Body That Loves You, Any Time, Any Place
• Michael -- She's Out Of My Life, I Can't Help It
• Quincy Jones -- the Secret Garden [w/ Al B. Sure!, James Ingram, El DeBarge, & Barry White], You Put A Move On My Heart [w/ Tamia]
• DeBarge -- All This Love, Love Me In A Special Way, Share My World
• Billy Preston & Syreeta --With You I'm Born Again
• Commodores -- Three Times A Lady
• Diana Ross & Lionel Richie -- Endless Love
• Lenny Kravitz -- Heaven Help, My Precious Love
• Mary Jane Girls -- Shadow Lover
• Chanté Moore -- All of her album Precious, Am I Losing You?
• Me'Shell Ndegéocello -- Outside Your Door, All of her album Bitter [size=1[one of the best albums EVER][/size]
• Pure Soul -- We Must Be In Love, Stairway To Heaven [w/ the O'Jays] [who, of course, sang the original which is excellent too]
• Tony Rich Project -- Nobody Knows, Silly Man
• Shai -- Comforter, Together Forever
• Sweetback -- Softly, Softly [w/ Maxwell] & there are some great slow instrumentals on the album
• Zhané -- Sweet Taste Of Love, La, La, La, Crush, & their best song -- For A Reason
• Lionel Richie -- Easy, Still
• Luther Vandross -- If This World Were Mine, If Only For One Night, Superstar

• Prince -- When We're Dancing Close And Slow, Do Me, Baby, the Beautiful Ones, Adore, Slow Love, the Question Of U, Insatiable, Sweet Baby, Pink Cashmere, Shh, Somebody's Somebody, One Kiss At A Time, Soul Sanctuary, Dreamin' About U, Saviour

• I'd highly recommend any Sade, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Lonnie Liston Smith [great instrumentals], Maxwell, & Prince [pre-1998] albums.

If you're looking for just hits two labels did it right. Rhino has their Smooth Grooves series & EMI has their Slow Jams series. And both have some fantastic stuff on 'em.

Of course, this is all just off the top of my head...

An obscure song from R&B singer G. Carlin:

I am looking for some songs to add to my R&B collection and came across this thread. There are some really great recommendations here - many that I have not yet heard. Perhaps we could revive this thread and others could make a few more recommendations...

As for me, some of my favorites are...
  • Link - I really wanna sex your body
  • LSG - My body
  • Keith Sweat - Twisted
  • Janet - Again
  • Jodeci - Feenin'
  • Jon B - Pretty Girl
  • TLC - Red Light Special
  • Hi-Five - I like the way (kissing game)
  • Tevin Campbell - Can we talk
  • Black Street - Before I let you go
  • Black Street - Joy
